Moving to Alabama...

Yep...it's true. We're being transferred next summer. I wanted to do something different for a while, and was accepted as a recruiter.

God, we'll miss the fishing here. To say it will be quite a change is the understatement of the century. :cry We were hoping to get somewhere in the NW, but it just wasn't to be. So, we picked Montgomery, AL from the list of what was left. Hey, better than NYC or Los Angeles...no offense, but we're not "city folks." For that matter, we hate hot weather, too...hmmm...this could be interesting. I was told AL has 2 seasons...hot and HOTTER.

So, looks like the Montgomery area has pretty good hunting and fishing, inexpensive cost of living, we can be in the salt water for a weekend fishing jaunt in 3 hours or so.

We've been in contact with Byrdman and he's given us some good info. We'd love to hear from anyone else with comments about the general area. How is acces to hunting? Donna and I both love to hunt. Is it a dues-paying members only "hunting club" type gig, or is there plenty of public land for playing? Any gun clubs that are recommended over others?

Lake Martin looks nice. Our boat has never been in fresh water!

We've found a couple of Irish Pubs...and some music sessions...we both love the music.

Well that's just too cool. I think. You guys won't start talking funny, will you?

Brydman is a pretty busy fellow right now, but when he catches his breath - look out! He'll give you the what for. It's neat to have a friend in a new area, and Patrick is a good one.

It's also neat and exciting to have something like that to look forward to. Keeps life interesting. Thanks for thinking enough of this group to share your plans here, and be sure and keep us posted about how it's all going.

I think you should move at the onset of winter, though, instead of summer. But I guess there are others who make the schedules. Who knows, maybe by moving time they'll have a spot for you in the Great NW. Then we'll just have to drag Brydman out here to meet you. There are a few jobs around here in your field, and those guys have some pretty snazzy toys. You want to fly jets?

Good luck, and make the most of this opportunity.

Thanks, Mike. I told Donna that if I ever slip and say "y'all" she has my express permission to hit me over the head as hard as she can. :D

Our transfer season is the summer...nothing I can do about that. We're milking what's left of the fishing for all it's worth.

As for the job in the NW...well, I keep joking with Donna that when I retire from this gig I'm going to be a WM door greeter. I can retire in '08 but I'll most likely stay at least until 2010 and then try to get Vancouver, WA and retire out of there after that tour. Until then, we'll try to find cool stuff to do wherever we are...

Hope the southern folks here don't get too upset at the friendly ribbing about the accent...it's all in good fun. I've worked with many people from the south over the years...nice people.

I hope the price of gas goes back down...we're pulling the boat all the way...planning on taking the ferry down to Bellingham then pressing onward.

Yes, there are some big deer down there from what I've heard. Problem is access...I'm sure I'll hook up with some one and be good to go. What I'm really itching to do is take a hog with my .475 Linebaugh. Dan, whenever I look at your pics of the dogs I smile....is there anything more beautiful than a GSP on point? I think not. Have to wait until we stop moving before we get a dog. I have a Parker double so I'll surely be taken under the wing of some old southern gentleman and be chasing quail before ya know it. Pointers and doubleguns are like religion down there.

Well I don't know, but I'll ask my wife, the redheaded Southern Baptist from Arkansas. Give her 15 minutes on the phone with her moma, and she talks funny too. (If ever she gets off the phone after just 15 minutes, that would be something to talk about!)

I spent a couple weeks in Louisiana years ago, and after a few days I found myself trying not to talk with the southern influence. The reason I tried not to was because it sounded so odd to hear it in my own voice I was afraid the locals might think I was making fun of them. I have been thinking about that visit lately because of all the stuff going on back there. It was in January, and an ice storm had the big long causeway shut down so I stayed a night in Kenner, right next to New Orleans, before I could get to the paper mill in Bogalusa.

Hey - we got C-Brats in Vancouver!
