I have someone wanting a river boat asking about my CD and I haven't a clue what it might be worth--any suggestions? It is in good shape.
Thanks, eaglebrownbear
eaglebrownbear-
When boats, RV's, and trucks get beyond 12 to 15 years of age, the exact model year is far less relevant than the simple condition of the vehicle. By the 15th year, the blue book value has been reduced to a minimum, and everything depends on the mileage (or hours of operation), condition of all the equipment (inc. electronics, though they may well be totally outdated), the cosmetic condition, added on optional equipment, etc.
What type of engine(s) does your boat have? Single? Twins? Single + kicker? 2 or 4 stroke? Hours of operation? Service record?
Has the boat been modified or customized? At what cost and current condition?
Do you have a trailer? Condition of same?
Has the boat been through any accidents or structural problems?
Do you have a canvas Bimini or enclosure?
Windlass? Ground tackle?
Until these questions are answered, we'd be guessing wildly at a value, but CD-22 Classics generally sell for something like $14k-$22k, depending on condition and the answers to the above questions.
If you don't have a trailer, a deduction of $2k +/- $500 would be expected. A blown main engine or one in poor shape should reduced the value by around $5k, +/-. Deductions should also be made for other equipment in poor or non-operative condition. Dollar value can be added for special equipment in good operative condition, such as a davit, dinghy, or crab pot puller, etc.
If you want a more specific answer,we'll need these questions answered, and some photos would also be very useful.
Also, the value depends somewhat on where the boat is. A boat in Alaska is worth the most, one in the South perhaps somewhat less.
You can also use the archived information for comparison prices on former boats for sale listed near the C-Dorys for Sale on the Homepage, though what you'll see are mostly just asking prices.
Good Luck with your sale!
