My tanks are shot. Need to replace. Any suggestions

1982 22' Angler. It had the split 20's in the rear. I would like to go to 80 gal. if possible (made be up the center). Has any done this type of up grade? Or should I just get the same ones re-made?

I can't speak to 80 gallons, or specifically to your generation of Angler -- which may render this info pointless since I think the splashwell is different, but just in case -- I can tell you that the Moeller port and starboard 23-gallon tanks that fit under a post-1986 22 Cruiser are available and can be purchased through any Moeller dealer. They are in the neighborhood of $250 apiece. There are drawings of them in my album if you want to take a look at them. These are the tanks that are being put in the new 22's now, and were also used in some of the 2000's 22 Cruisers (mid- to late-2000's, I believe).

Your best bet will be a custom Aluminum tank. The early anglers are entirely different than modern boats in the transom area--and you can rework the entire area to accumulate this size tank. However, 80 gallons is a lot of fuel--about 500 lbs vs the 36 or so gallons which were there.

I have seen several boats with a single aluminum tank of at least 50 gallons, so 80 is certainly do-able. Another option is two 20 gallons aft, and then 20 under each gunnel in saddle tanks.

Glennmarina,

I bought saddle tanks from Overtons. Not sure of the maker. I covered them with sheet aluminum. 20 gal/side.

This was on a 1984 Angler. The original tanks were two 12 gal. steel tanks under the motorwell. This gave me a total of 64 gal. if needed. I eventually put the batteries under the motorwell and just used the saddle tanks.

Thanks for posting that photo. I can see that the tanks made for a "modern" 22 Cruiser would be totally out of place. I like the look of that access to the transom you have with that boat - nice set up.

I just replaced my tanks in my 2008 19' Angler. Moeller 23 gallon tanks, FT2339 AND FT2340 are the model numbers. Bought them from Fisheries Supply in Seattle. $201.98 a piece.

Those part numbers are the same tanks I mentioned above -- turns out they're more optimized for the "modern" splashwell/cockpit set-up.
