Need a ride on a 19 angler

Hi all,
On fairly short notice, I'm wondering whether anyone might be available in the next two days (Thu/Fri) to do a brief sea trial with your 19 angler. I am wanting to see things like body roll at the dock, on-water handling, etc. and don't have another option to do this before making a buying decision. I have a 16 cruiser and hope to see how dramatic a difference the 19 makes.

I'm also open to any online opinions about this--i.e. whether the 19 is worth the extra outlay, assuming I can find a pretty good deal in this economy. My main problems in the 16 are space (people, crab pots, fishing room), body roll when moving on the boat, i.e. when someone moves to one side, headroom/walk-in cabin, etc. If I do a 19, I will have the choice of motors, and lean towards the e-tec 90 after the other discussion, but also open to opinions on that.

I'm on Bainbridge and can head your way if you can help me out.

Thanks and talk soon,
Ben McCafferty

Ben,

In case you might be encouraged to "think outside the box" I could offer a ride on a 22 Cruiser.

Nothing against the 19, just don't have one.

PM sent, check your in box.

Ben,
I'm 6' 1" and 200lbs. I have no trouble with headroom standing in the in the pilothouse of our 19 Angler. The rail may settle an inch or so on the waterline with my wait on it,no acrobatics necessary moving from the cockpit to the foredeck

Steve Grover up at Lake Tahoe upgraded from a CD 16 to CD 19 ao he could probaly give you first hand side by side comparison.

I bought our 19 never having been on any C-Dory. I'd take you for a ride if we were closer. I gleaned a lot of info off this site and learned from all the people on the site and really analyzed my wife and I's next mission. The 19 is the same boat as the 22 from the helm forward and for us, we wanted the bunk and pilothouse dimensions and the final item was the money was what we could swing. I can truly say we are having more fun in this little boat than any other we've owned we've built a couple and owned one new 34 foot sailboat. The 19 is solid, lots of headroom and me hanging over the side on the ladder makes it move just a bit. It handles chop honestly with correct speed and roll is not a big deal. The chines really resist a deep roll. Most of all I felt that the builders did a great job, things like the wiring, windows and hatches all looks more "big boat" than small boat, very well done. If you want to move up a size the 19 is great,

We are a bit far away as well, but I can vouch for what has been noted thus far. Just came off the Pamlico Sound with four footers. Very stable and rides like a champ.... running with, against and along side swell. Had no problem making excellent headway against the 20 kt wind and waves. We had it geared up with full overnight and light fishing items... and a 60 pound dog who is never concerned about conditions.

I was going to buy a 19 angler and then had a chance to buy a 22 cruiser for almost the same price, so I went with the 22. IMHO the 22 will hold its resale value best of any C-Dory.

My $0.02.

Hi Ben,
I went the CD 16, 19, 22 route. I went to Wefings with money in hand to buy the CD 16. During sea trial the wife said "you have to get a bigger boat" I wasn't going to pass up on that offer so ended up with the CD19. For me the CD16 was fine but it is a 16 foot boat. The stabltity for the 16 was her main objection. There is a huge difference going to the 19. I owned the CD 19 for 4 months and decided that crusing was more of what we wanted to do so traded the 19 into Wefings and got a new CD 22. To me there was not much performance difference in the 19 and 22. My opinion is that the CD 19 makes a better primary fishing with some crusing and the CD 22 makes a better primary cruising sometimes fishing boat. For a 16 foot boat the cd16 can also do both and can be towed with anything. Like many other purchase one size does not fit all. It come down to personal preference. The best solution is to get one of each plus the CD25. That way your covered for 90% of any boating you may want to do. To sum my case up. The cost to upgrade from the 16 to the 19 was worth it. The cost to upgrade from the 19 to the 22 was worth it. The cost of going from the 22 to the 25 was not.
