Hello All,

I just bought a 2004 C-Dory 25 Cruiser. As a sailor I like keeping a boat on a mooring. Anyone here keep their C-Dory on a mooring? I've found plenty of info here on how to grab the mooring etc. More interested in how people find the boat handles living on a mooring. Any feedback appreciated.

Hi Keith - Welcome to C-Dory ownership. There are plenty of former sailors here who chose a C-Dory when making that change to a powercruiser. We had a dock at our previous home, but did spend time on moorings when we were cruising. I'll give you a couple concerns with a C-Dory on a mooring.

The boat is not self-bailing. The 25s have scuppers that will let an easy rain flow out, but a heavy rain can bring water in faster than the scupper can flow out. That leaves the bilge pump to empty water that goes into the bilge. If there is a failure of that pump or the batteries die, it could be a potential problem. A solution to that is a full cockpit cover. We had one on our 25 and it kept the cockpit reasonably dry. A solar panel can help keep the batteries topped off.

The other concern is in a tight mooring field, the C-Dory "sails" around differently from a sailboat with a keel. There is a lot of cabin on your boat and not that much boat under the water. That may not be a problem is you are on a private mooring and not a lot of other boats in close proximity.

I'm sure you will hear from other owners with more experience on a mooring.

On the upside: your C-Dory will go to wind like a bandit and that enclosed helm will keep you out of the weather. (y)
