NEW RANGER 25 OWNER

Just bought R25 #62, haven't taken possession. Enjoying reading the comments and I expect that after delivery (end of next week??) I will have a bunch, too.

I would appreciate comments on bottom paint. "Lobo" will be kept in saltwater (Victoria BC) year round. I can lift it out at my yacht club quite cheaply. I am wondering if it is wiser to not bottom paint and haul and pressure wash every 3 months. Previous boat a 1973 Catalina 27 sail boat with lots of bottom paint on it. I've never had a brand new boat before.

Bottom paint the sucker. Even in the PNW, after 3 mos., you'll have a lot of stuff on it. Our sailboat was in Bowen Isl one winter, and the bottom growth was spectacular. We've found ablative paint is best, because it just wears away. Hard antifouling builds up and then you have to remove it (grinding or sandblasting.)

Also, don't forget to epoxy seal the bottom against water osmosis, before you slap on the bottom paint. Do this when the boat is new, and just keep on going. You might check with the factory on this, to see what gel coat they use. C-Dory recommends it, but I don't know about Ranger.

By the way, if your last boat had bottom paint, how did that work? I assume you had to pressure wash it at least once a season.

Congratulations.
This is my first post. I will be taking deliverey of mine Hull# 69 some time in the next week or 10 days. Bought mine from Wefin's but was first shown another at Turner Marine. Both dealers have been Super.
I also got the 110 Yanmar. We are downsizing from a bigger trawler and are really excited about lighter maintainenece and ease of running.

Invest in the bottom paint! I had Granville Marine do mine in Anacortes. Brought her out on CincodeMayo after 6 months in the water and no growth whatsoever! Probably the best investment in buying R'Dragon

Strongly advise bottom painting...mine came with that...done here in Rock Hall by the dealer, Gratitude Yachts.

On another note: My R25, brand new, hull 52...sits in her slip. I wonder if all of us with these boats should have an easy way of communicating...not another site...i would NEVER want to give up the wise boating advice available here...but a way for R 25 people to more easily fine each other for comments and advice.

I am in the first 50 hours of break in..and attempting to follow boththe advice of the manual and that of my service manager here.

I'll have her scrubbed up for the Chesapeake gathering on June 6,7, 8.
