New "toys" for Christmas!

This year my boys bought a marine grade sound system for the boat and mounted it for me while I watched! Great to hear some tunes over the sound of my old 2 stroke!

My daughter bought me Navionics to get me safely home as well. How fun!
(The Navionics suggestion came from the wisdom of this site!)

Any boat "toys" this year for Christmas?

sounds like a great toy, I need to get on that and install some tunes myself before it heats up around here. getting tired of listening to the speaker phone.

Mom and dad got us a pretty sweet portable camping coffee maker for the boat, makes a lot more coffee than the french press we use now

I got a ton of new fishing gear for Xmas. This was the best Christmas ever in terms of my wife's shopping for me. Of course, it didn't hurt at all that my fishing buddy went to Outdoor Emporium with her as a "personal shopper"! :D Several new Tomic plugs, some new flashers, a spool of tuna cord, some tuna clones and a new Penn Battle 6000 for tuna fishing. I think we have to to "employ" this personal shopper again (he "works" for alcohol filled chocolates)!

:thup

I got a new dinghy and 3.5 hp motor. Early arrival for Christmas. And a waterproof case for my iPhone... not essential in the boat, but sure will be nice to have with the dinghy and the kayaks.

I like that "personal shopper" idea, Roger. I'm guessing we could enlist members here to help with that, too.

Happy Holidays,
Jim

Places like Outdoor Emporium, Sportco, Cabela's, et al need to set up a gift registry akin to what engaged couples use at Bloomingdale's. It would be nice for me to create a list at each store of exactly what I prefer so my spouse can go to the store and find the exact item I want.

Is there anything at those places that you can't get at Amazon?

amazon has a pretty cool wish list registration that you can send to people.

Susan used the amazon gift wish list this year. Made my job easy. Just go down the list and buy it all and have it shipped. I was done in about two minutes.

Living in a small town, we buy plenty of stuff on-line. That said, I like walking through Cabela's or Bass Pro... or a boat show, a guitar shop, or a motorcycle dealership... kinda nice getting to see all that stuff I didn't even know I needed. 8)

Sometimes. But depending on the items and whether or not you have Amazon prime AND depending on how many different vendors are supplying the goods via Amazon, often the shipping costs are a large fraction of the order's value. I find this to be especially the case when I get smaller items like hooks etc. Also, since Amazon is a local company, there's no sales tax advantage for me to order online through them anymore. Also, I can go into Outdoor Emporium and actually get advice from someone who fishes the local water so I'm happy to shop there and to support the local company. Finally as Jim says, sometimes I see things there I "didn't even know I needed".

Mother-in-law got me an Ingle 65 qt cooler, as the Igloo would only keep ice about 1.5 days. Looking forward to the next cruise.

Our family was not available for Christmas, but we did have a great steak at the local DENNY'S where we ran into a long time friend from my old Navy days; who is also a liver transplant survivor. What a blessing, priceless.

I already got an early present of 2 new ham radios(2Meters, one for the car & one for home.)

Going to give Sally 4 dozen roses for our 48th Anniversary tomorrow and she's going to give me a new VHF. Don't tell her about either one yet, I want to surprise her! :love

Charlie,

Isn't it great to still be on the honeymoon after all our breakin time and training?

Congratulations, Charlie. Does the wife also get a metal?
