Hi all-I finally got signed up (thanks Mike) so I thought I'd introduce myself. My wife and I became the proud owners of a delightful 1985 22' classic this summer and I still ogle over it every morning in my driveway. Years ago when I caught the saltwater fishing bug and saw my first C dory I knew right away I had to have one. Several years later, this 1985 model found its way into my driveway and I couldn't be happier.

I had it up to Port Hardy and Neah Bay twice this summer and all I can say is wow! The combination of seaworthiness, fishing room, trailerabllity (8 hrs from the salt over here in Idaho), and economy are unbeatable for me. I've owned a 17' Arima and a 19' Olympic and loved them both, but this boat beats them hands down for what I want to do. I was almost giddy at Port Hardy this year when the wind came up a couple of afternoons and I finally got to play around in the slop: 2 to 4' confused wind waves that would have been miserable in either of my old boats. With my C dory I just set the throttle for a quiet 15 mph cruise and enjoyed a dry, non-jarring ride home. My Neah Bay trips just proved its worth more (it was great to meet Roger out there this August and I appreciate the fishing tips!). I'll spend the winter planning an early spring trip to either Lake Powell or Mead.

Anyway, as has been stated countless times before, this site is a treasure for those like me.-LTB

:beer cONGRADULATION, ON YOUR CHOICE OF A C-Dory, they are a great boat indeed, maybe I will see you out of Newport Bay this coming summer, I fish a lot out of Newport, mainly for tuna, halibut, and salmon, I have a 2006 22 ft cruiser (Dahlfin), hope to see you out there and enjoy to the max. take care john. :wink :thup

Welcome LTB! You're story is very similar to ours, we waited 3 years, and would have waited longer if we hadn't lucked into our 22 Angler.
Hope you get a photo album soon!...I'd love to see some pics!

I too am a newbie to C-Dory and took delivery of my '03 CD22 3 weeks ago. It has twin 50 Yamas and is very clean. I have been working on installing an arch, inside roof rails and a few other miscellaneous items and then will give it a first trial on a lake nearby my home here in Lincoln, CA (N CA). I have not even been on a C-Dory yet but have high hopes that it will handle all my ocean fishing needs. I generally log about a 100 hours annually primarily ocean fishing for salmon, halibut and now tuna. I grew up in Hawaii and have fished in deep V hulls most of the time and know that this hull will not ride quite as soft but given the fuel economy in todays market, I think the trade off will be worth it! I am also giving up space for coolers in the cockpit but have had great advice from other serious fish brats so am looking forward to the experience!

That is a perfect boat for thoes winter steelhead @ the confluence too!! :beer

All-thanks for the warm welcome. I'll try to get a photo album up soon.

John-catching a tuna is a goal of mine, I'll have to get some feedback from you on that subject, as well as Oregon coastal bottomfishing.

Vern-I think you'll love your ride. I was very pleasantly surprised how soft these boats can be. The key, as has been written many times here, is to be happy going a little slower (there's a life lesson somewhere there, come to think of it!).

Welcome to the C-Dory family to both Lbarret and Vern. We will be looking forward to meeting somewhere in the PNW, or at a CBGT. I know you will love your boats. Everybody here does. Congratulations and remember, there are another two kinds of boaters out there, ones that are on C-dorys and ones that Want to be.

I too just closed on a CD this week, an 07 22ft cruiser parked 2000 miles away in Port Angeles WA. In two months I’ll lay my hands on her for the first time, and if we’re lucky take her out for cruise before returning to Anchorage. :( Then its another painful 3 months wait to drive down and pull her home. :D
So I spend time here and there reading what other people do and where they go and make plains for what I’m going to do when Triple J is parked in my drive way, I CAN’T WAIT!!
The 3 of us, wife and 8 year old son hope to put many hours on the Triply J next summer.

You’re a luck man,

And yes, this site is a treasure for those like me.

Jay,
Anything I can do to help. I'm about 20 min from PA. Need pictures or I can just go over and pat it now and then for you. My boat is laid up for the winter now, and it will probably be first of March before it's out. Virtual boating here, though great, is just not the same.

Congratulations to Triple J and LBarrett...and thanks to others for the welcome! I hope to have my album up once the arch is installed.

Holoholo,

With that name, I knew you were a "localboy". :wink

Lbarrett & Holoholo, welcome to the site! It's addictive.

Thanks for the offer Harvey,
Stacy is pulling her over to my in-laws house tomorrow, who live on a little cove on the Southern tip of a peninsula on hood canal, a place called Coyle; don’t know the name of the peninsula. So she’ll be in a good place tell spring, and if I’m lucky the week after Xmas we’ll wet her keel a bit along the Hood.

So I’m open to suggestions for day cruise in December; should give us a chance to fire up the Wallas.

I am a lurker on this site hoping to eventually get into boating (I have little or no experience) and likely targeting the C-Dory (probably a 22') as a possible acqisition. I like the boats and enjoy trying to learn as much as possible reading the many postings on this site in the meantime.

Anyway, the reason I am responding (my 1st ever posting) is to inform you that Coyle is on the south end of the Toandos peninsula. All the locals know the peninsula as "The Coyle" and would be clueless if you mentioned the Toandos but that is the real name of it.

Fisherman's Cove is a very protected small harbor reached via a narrow cut channel at the south end of the Coyle. There is a small boat launch there and a number of boats docked there. I am sure this is the cove you are referring to.

You can easily see where this is using Mapquest (www.mapquest.com) and entering 'Coyle' as the city (a real extreme stretch of the word 'city' as I am sure your in-laws would agree) and of course entering 'WA' as the state.

I happen to live about 15 minutes north of there on the west side of the Coyle peninsula.

Good luck w/ your purchase.

Hay Dan,

that’s the place, thanks for the clarification. My wife’s folks live right on fisherman’s Cove with there own dock and access to the ramp. We are really hopping the weather will be good enough to launch Triple J and take her for a spin.
Thanks again for the info, glad your no longer a lurker.

Jay
