For the curious amongst you, here are some site statistics for our first complete month away from MSN. I wasn't sure what to expect, since MSN does not provide managers with these details, but I was surprised; way more folks pay us a visit than I anticipated.
Unique visitors: 3,701
This statistic is a little misleading; in reality, it is unique computer addresses, not visitors. Some folks log in from multiple PC's, and some folks (mostly those on dial-up) get a different computer address each time they log in. Still, it points out something interesting; the vast majority of folks checking in here are "guests" - they have not registered as members, and look around without logging in. Which is of course, just fine - we like visitors, no matter how they let themselves in the door...
Number of visits: 11,045
Number of pages viewed: 188,283
Number of hits: 1,048,470
Yes, that's over one million. A quick explanation - a "hit" is a request to the web server. Depending on the page being viewed, the page may contain objects that make up many hits - once such example are the photo album pages, which could contain 10-12 hits per page.
Referring Pages: When you click on links as you surf, one bit of information that gets sent is where you came from. The vast majority of our hits came from folks directly accessing the site via bookmarks, but many came from search engine results and other sites that have linked to us. Search engines accounted for about 50% of these referrals, with the C-Dory and E.Q. Marine web sites racking up impressive numbers as well.
One final observation - the photo albums and forums are pretty close in popularity; forums edge out the photo albums, but only by a few percentage points.
