Ocean Sport boats

I had contacted the Chilkat folks before ordering my Tom Cat--at that time (over a year ago) they were going to take care of the commercial charter demand before selling recreational boats. I have written asking again. The negative is the 10'6" beam. The pluses are that the tunnel is open aft at rest, there is a nice walk around side deck, and the boat has a 3rd trolling motor! Really looks like a winner, when they go into recreational production.

Just the right size for my slip!

This is several years down the road, OK, but I could see us getting something bigger like that for the slip and getting a 22 for trailering to Brat gatherings, etc. (I will deny having said this if word gets back to the Admiral! :mrgreen: )

They imply that the boat gets 3mpg, too.

Range at Cruising Speed........750 nm"

That's nice. 10' 6" is only a minor issue for me since the ramp
is just 1/2 mile down a residential street.

I can get you some real world performance numbers on that very ChilKat featured in their photo album here in a few weeks :)

We looked at those ocean sport boats...wow, nice, way out of our league & not just for the initial price either, gas bill would kill us. There was a guy tied up in Ilwaco that had a diesel powerd Skagit that he sold for ~$70k (wish we would have bought it) and bought an Ocean Sport

I got a reply from Chilkat:
"We are about to start building a cruising model this month. That boat is available with an expected completion of late summer. Base price on our boats starts at 119,500.00, and the trunk cabin is another 15,500. Typical power combinations have been 225 Hondas and 250 Suzukis. Our boats have been averaging 28-30 knots at 4200-4300 rpm cruise with the combos and almost 3 miles a gallon. I'm including a price sheet to begin working from, please let us know what you would be looking for in a boat and I could work up a quote for you.

I am not sure what is going to be included in the cruising model, but the dinette is $1600, Wallas stove, $1850, Cabin lites; 150, 4 AGM Batteries and pannel;$1058, Liquid tie bar; $2200, Pressure Water system with galley sink; $400, On demand hot water shower package; $2200. I suspect that you could pay another $40K for the engines and instrumentation--so I would not be surprised to see a boat close to $200K out the door with a trailer etc...Not sure I believe the 3 miles a gallon, but one would have to see their numbers.

To find this test, look on the Honda Marine site, select an engine model, look in "performance tests", then select all. For some reason, it does not appear if "catamaran" is selected.
