Has anyone out there replaced their plug in the stern of the boat with a oneway stern plug, that lets water out when underway and no water can get back in when the boat is not moving ? Thought it might be handy when the deck is covered in fish blood, just hose it out and go !

Forgive me for not knowing, but do the 22"s have a stern plug that can be removed while under way to dump water? No scuppers? I guess that is what the bilge pump is for and why the 25' has deck scuppers?
Anyone with a 19'?

The former owner of my boat met an untimely death but had installed a rubber one way thingamajig in the stern drain. Of course I was unable to ask him how it worked. I removed it and put in a "proper" rubber plug - I just don't have confidence in a rubber one-way valve that may clog and possibly lead major flooding and potential disaster.

When I picked up Adeline from Mark Toland it was equipped with a rubber one-way "flapper" valve in the transom thru-hull drain. We talked about it and I recall him warning me that a piece of fishing line COULD lodge itself in there and allow water to enter, flooding the boat. Okay for day use if you monitored it. Not trustworthy for long-term mooring.
 
I think it was Dusty or his son who has mentioned the little ball in a cage type drain fitting, but that was for self draining cockpits. If one fit a drain tube with a valve that could be opened and closed while in the cockpit and underway, that would work. I have used that setup in an older aluminum fishing boat. I'm sure these experienced C-Dory salts have arrived at a good answer for you though. Is it possible to have the rubber collapsible tube thing on the outside and a regular removable plug on the inside? JOhn
 
My first C-Dory was a 89 16ft Angler that had the rubber collapsable tube on the outside and a small rubber cap that could be closed on the inside. It worked alright for day use. I definately would not feel secure in leaving the boat in the water with that type of plug in it. It always leaked slightly when not moving, but it was effective in draining any rain water that accumulated in the cockpit when fishing.

OK guys. Put a plug on it from the INSIDE. When it's out, hang it from the helm. You won't forget many times. But you will forget. Dont try to game the system. Do it right.

Spoken from experience, right Charlie? I put my screw-tight on from the inside and I have the C-dory furnished flipper type clipped to a screw on the inside of the transom "just in case."
