OPSAIL 2012

This event, to coincide with Norfolk's Harbor Fest, could be a really fun opportunity for a bunch of C-Dory's to get together. It would be fun to cruise out and watch the tall ships come into the Harbor. CGC EAGLE is supposed to be here this year and the events are commemorating the war of 1812. Several stops on the Eastern Shore of VA too.

Too bad the Lankford Gathering could not be held in the Tidewater area for this year, since it usually runs abt the same timeframe.

It is probably short notice to accommodate 30 CDs at this time in one place. We would be spread out all over the area, but within easy run time to meet since the OPSAIL 2012 will run abt a week.

Sounds like a fun event. I got to run out into Juan de Fuca to meet 2 tall ships one day, and had a really perfect day. Just couldn't get any pictures of my boat with the talls ships in the background.

I have contacted my marina; Marina at Marina Shores for how many slips are open and what a package rate may be.

I expect an answer sometime Wed./Thursday.

The best block that I can see would be 6-10 June.

The docks are secure and there are many extras (pool, restaurant, fuel, pump out & service).

If you trailer to the area there is a city ramp abt 0.2 miles west, by the Lynnhaven Inlet Bridge at the Lynnhaven Inlet, a private ramp at Bubba's Marina and one at First Landing State Park, VB. I do not know abt leaving a rig overnight, but I believe Bubba's can. I can take one beside the house & one in front .

I don't want to get the cart before the horse, but If I can help point y'all, let me know.

There are many options for the upcoming events and locations even closer to down town Norfolk. I am abt 1 hr ride to Hospital Point, Portsmouth, Mile #1 on the ICW. The vantage of were I am is the beginning of the parade and seeing all those tall ships against the back drop of the sunrise.

So, let the discussion begin.

The time is fast closing... My marina is asking if there is a need for dock space for the OPSAIL 2012 time of 1 June to 12 June. They are getting request from members and non-members, but they can still keep us together as group. I have notified them that I have not heard, yet, from anyone. So as to get the best rate, act soon.

Wed., 6 June: sea & air parade
Thurs., 7 June: tall ships arrive
Fri., 8 June: tall ship parade

These are the main items, but there will be events going on all 12 days on the Norfolk water front.

C-SONG will be on duty for the "1812 Sailabration" being held in Baltimore Harbor from June 13 through June 19th. We will be serving as Regatta Patrol for the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Will be looking for any C-Brats in the area during that time.

Gary,

I plan to be around Baltimore Harbor looking for tall ships on Saturday June 16th. Blue Angels at 4pm. I will be on my boat and joined by a friend and his family in a non C-Dory. We have reservations at Rock Hall Marina across the Bay that night. Not sure the degree of crowds and chaos but we will mingle into it as possible. I'm always looking for C-Dorys in these parts. Maybe I will spot you or others. Please cruise by and say hi. I'll do the same. The tall ship lineup is like nothing I've ever seen.

Joe,
Come on down to the OPSAIL 2012 in Norfolk harbor if you want a preview as by the schedule I posted earlier,, then follow the fleet north.
