not sure if you guys have seen the Harbor Freight Tools sale ( www.harborfreight.com ) on a portable, pacific hydrostar 12 volt marine utility pump. listed at $39.99 now on sale for $24.99. i bought one and am thinking where to install it. probably port battery locker. i seem to collect water in the cockpit both at the sump well between gas tanks and at or around the cabin door. i do have an automatic bilge switch and pump between the gas tanks but that doesn't kick on until the water is higher. think this might be a quick fix. suggestions alway welcomed.

1. Will the pump self-prime from the location you have planned for it? The specifications give a number "23" , but I'm not sure if it's in inches or feet.
2. Can the pump be run dry? It will happen sooner or later, regardless of how you use it. I suspect that it's a displacement impeller pump (as opposed to a centrifugal impeller pump like most bilge pumps that must be submersed) and can be run dry only for a short period.
