I am curious and interested in this fish attracting method and am wondering whether or not any of you have experienced the fish catching wonder of the century. Like most fishermen I am drawn to all the colorful stuff and since this thing is pretty black and white I thought I should seek council ! www.Protroll.com Mike on Huda Thunkit
 
My Grandad taught me to add some letters to lure advertisments and that simple advice saved a lot of money over the years, and kept fishing simple, fun, and thus put a lot of fish in the boat. His advice: always add Erman.

He was a guide in Fl in the 20's-40's, the biggest fish were routinely caught with a short stock canepole, a short piece of heavy line, and a piece of pork fat. The method was called "dibbling" in which you jigged the pork up and down. I guess it has something to do with ions.
 
I've been reading about the E-Chip technology in the Great Lakes Angler Magazine, but have yet to try any of the Pro-troll products. They sound kind of interesting though, and apparently E-Chips have been responsible for several recent fishing derby championships.

"Responsible" is a strong word. "Associated with" or "correlated with" is probably more appropriate. The problem is, that hardly anyone does a properly controlled study to show that one method is better than another if all other factors are equal. If enough use anything, it will eventually show up in the hands of someone who wins a tournament. My favorite question to ask someone who says "I've never caught anything on 'X' ", is "How often have you used 'X' ". The answer is typically somewhere between never and almost never. Similar logic often applies to "I've never caught anthing over there".

As far as the E-chip technology goes, I have trolled identical flashers +/- the E-chips, switching between different sides of the boat with no meaningful differences in catch rate. I have also trolled flashers with fins on them vs similar size and color flashers without the fins and with or without E-chips and have found that the fins on the flashers DO increase the number of hits. I've never tried the "Black box" devices so the only thing I can say about that is that they've never helped me. I do however catch more than enough fish without the black box. I also think that there's little scientific basis for claiming that any voltage I apply to the downrigger cable will have any effect on something very far below the surface. Salwater is highly conductive and at ground votage all the time. Any voltage (relative to ground) applied to the downrigger cable above the water line will be lost at the point where the cable hits the surface of the water.

I've tried the box when I was pretending to be a commercial fisherman - couldn't tell any diff after switching side to side for weeks.

This year I'll be different (Down, down, Byrdguy). Because the fish have been running way deep (per my Canadian friends) I'm going to go Tufline this year instead of wire. Some have been trolling at 600' with downriggers and catching big Chinook.
