Posting of very long link addresses

When folks type in a link to click on that is longer than the width of the page, you get the whole thread set to that wide width and it is a pain in the patooy to have to scroll over to the right for each of the posts you want to read. If it goes to 4-6 pages the whole thread complys to that width. I know you can do the "Click HERE" thing. I finally figured out how to do that, although I have to look at a cheat sheet whenever I want to do it. Is there any way that a long address can wrap to the next line? Or an easier way to put in a long address linked the "click HERE".

If folks use TinyURL, it solves the dilemma quickly, and permanently. The sysops/admins could do it, but it would be some work for them.

Bill, is this something you can add a link too, or is there some hidden agenda in the Tinyurl deal. Nothing is free.

I am guessing that there is some value in knowing what site addresses are being emailed and entered into member site dialogues. They probably have a way of tracking connections, subjects, and addresses that, put together, has some marketing value. Kind of like a political "poll". Maybe that helps advertisers target groups of interest, or value sites for ad revenues.

Also, many "free" sites dump spyware on your computer, or report info from your computer relating to internet use.

This is really easy to avoid. When using the tags do the following...

In this way you don't have to have the long URL. Just make sure to use the format I did above. :)
 
Gary, I know how to do it. It appears that many don't, so I was trying to find a way to eliminate the hassle that comes from doing it.
 
As many of you who have seen my posts know, I still haven't figured this out. Please know that I regret it, and it isn't for lack of trying. I think I'm close but as of yet, no cigar. Can someone please interpret the seemingly clear instructions above for me? For instance, what in the code refers to the url I'm inserting, and what is just to be copied from the instruction. How and where do I insert the shorthand word "here" which appears in blue when it works.? Again, I'm sorry about expanding the threads widthwise, but, as you can see, I need help with this as well as other things. Thanks.
 
Charlie- It worked!. Look at my last posting in the Champions thread. It's still extra-wide, but that has to do with the picture. Maybe that should wait for next semester. Thanks again.

A while back, I posted The Ultimate "How Do I Post Pictures Thread". If you chose to follow the advice there (install/use Firefox, add the BBCodeXtra Extension), you are way ahead of the game.

The Firefox BBCodeXtra Extension also makes for super-easy link creation at sites like this, that use BBCode. Here's how.

- Just as when copying those dreaded and ugly "long links", surf to a web page you want to link to, select and highlight the page address, and copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl + C for Windows/Linux, Option + C for Mac.)

- In the edit window of a post, type the text you want to turn into a link. Highlight the text with your mouse.

- Right-click the highlighted text selection (Control + click for you single-button Mac heads), and select bbcodeXtra --> Clipboard --> Make selection URL

That's all, folks.
