Hey Brats,

Just thought I would let you know about our inaugural trip on our C-Dory. I posted some photos of the trip here:

We had an incredible passage from Vancouver to Pender Harbour, where we spent three nights and then on to Princess Louisa. For March, we had unbelievable weather. Malaspina Straight was glass calm and only a light outflow wind (less than 10 knots) heading up Jervis Inlet. We cleared Malibu Rapids about an hour before slack with about 4.5 knots of current on the ebb. The C-Dory did great the whole trip. She was comfortable at cruise and at anchor or the dock. I was really impressed by the versatility of the boat - and got lots of compliments along the way.

We had a fantastic night in Princess Louisa which we shared with one other boat. The weather was warm and the sun was creating avalanches that thundered down the cliffs above Chatterbox falls.

The whole trip was 250 nautical miles and we burned 270 litres in fuel. We cruised at 17 knots (4500 rpm) and then a mix of trolling and slow exploring. My calculations put the total average mileage at 4.0 mpg which doesn't seem bad to me considering the load we had. It seemed we were running about 3 mpg at 4500 rpm cruise @ 17 knots.

Tried our hand at some fishing, but it was a little early for the Chinook still. A couple nice lings, but they're not in season. :sad

It was a great adventure and I'd like to thank the forum for helping me to prepare the boat and myself for the trip. Look forward to meeting up one day at a gathering.

Best,

Simon

Thanks for sharing your trip with your friends in the pub. Great photos, and you were so lucky this time of year with the weather. Perfect inaugural trip! Now for many more wonderful cruises on your great boat.

And the way to raise the shared images bar with interesting photos with people in them and some narrative. The smiles on the faces were the best boost for us winter bound boaters.

From your telling & photos the weather gods were indeed kind. It sure looks & sounds like your had a wonderful first cruise to a beautiful location & kudus to you for venturing out at a time of year, when it may well have become the opposite. I wish you many more of the same & when the sky's are not blue & the winds blow you enjoy the adventure still.

Thanks for sharing,

Jay

Now all you need to cap it off, is a trip to the Friday Harbor gathering to see and meet all the others who love their boats...and can tell you all the secrets.

Looks like a really nice time was had........and enjoyed. Great trip. Kind of like starting hiking by climbing Mount Rainier  It is a beautiful place and you will want to go back. Like Barry said, stay on the roll, and come to Friday Harbor for a really nice meet and great and so much more.
