Race Rocks Service Call

I had the pleasure of setting foot on Race Rocks today for the first time even though I have fished the area for 20 plus years. Built in 1860 and lit up on December 26 of that year. WWW.lighthousefriends.com I was doing a service call for the keeper who was by his lonesome of course but his girlfreind was coming to stay for a couple of weeks so of course he needed the fridge and stove working. I think it is one of maybe two on the westcoast that is occupied by a real person, not Coast Guard but Pearson College [ don't get me started, that could go on for days]It was a fun work day and when he turned the ancient hand crank fog horn I could not keep the smile off my face. A couple of pics in my folder but could not figure how to insert them
Cheers

Neato! Sounds like a cool work day.

So does it have a propane or kerosene fridge? Or do they generate electricity for it?

A few of your photos:

By the way, to insert photo(s) from your album:

1) Go to the photo in your album (I open a separate tab or window for this), and enlarge it all the way (i.e. don't use the thumbnail).

2) Right click on the photo and select "Properties" and within that select "View Image Info." Copy that image address and then come back to your post. (On a Mac right click and select "Copy Image Address," then come back to your post.)

3) Paste that address into your post, and then go up above the typing window and click on "Img." That will put tags on each end of the address. For some reason it often puts the ending tag on a new line, so I have to manually delete to get it on the same line, but it may not do that for you.

4) Repeat for each image you want in your post.

5) Instead of just hitting "Submit" for your post, hit "Preview" so you can see how it looks. If the images don't look right in Preview, they won't post right either. This is where you can catch a misplaced tag or if you forgot to put the tags on. Once it Previews correctly, then Submit and "Voila!"

First off COOL service call. Second, In your album is a picture of a what I believe is a elephant seal. Those are fairly rare around here. We have only seen one in the area in the last 11 years. Very cool.

Yes - that is a bull elephant seal and the earlier photo is a female. I studied them for years in Baja. Great photos and great tale about the Race Rocks service call.

Elephant seals are somewhat common in the Victoria area. we had one molting in town for a few weeks a couple of years ago.
Terry, how come you didn't invite me to join you! :)
