Recovering from double knee replacement

Anyone else have this procedure done? Finding nothing like your real God given knees. 7 weeks now after surgery,no boating this season.Lifetime of masonry,and sports took its toll.Worked first 3 months of the season then too much pain got it checked and got the results.Missing Lake Erie this season.Poured a driveway last week to test them out did okay.Wife has 1 more year of work then we travel camp ,boat and fish.
 
Wow, both knees at once? I hope you find them to be better than the originals before too long.

I remarked to Lois just the other day how fortunate we have been to have the original parts still going and likely to last our lifetimes. Creaking and sore sometimes, but still carrying us effortlessly for the most part.

That said, it is utterly amazing what those docs can do these days. Knees and hips are pretty much routine for them and the new parts wear longer! Recovery has to be tough though, and I hope yours was easy now that you look back on it.

I also hope your one year wait for your and your wife's new life goes quickly and painlessly.
 
I had a friend who did both knees at once. She just assumed a miserable two or three months, but only once. Ten years later doing OK.
 
Larry, my wife had it done in 2012. Both knees, about 2 months apart. She is so much better now, although at times 1 knee still feels a bit unstable. Despite that, her ability to live and enjoy life is so much better (for both of us) and we are able to actively enjoy both our C-Dory and Lance. She definitely thinks the surgeries were the right thing for her. Give your rehab a bit more time....

Larry, hang in there. It sounds like you are doing well and the rehab time is working it's way and worth. Tough decision to do one or two, and pros and cons each way, and when it comes down to it, you do what you think is best for you. By the time your wife is through work, you will be back to 100% plus, and enjoying the new life.

Eight months since knee replacement and I love my new knee. Only regret was putting up with knee pain for too long. Should have done it at least a year earlier.
 
Nope but having hips done in Oct and Dec. Pain is tough to tolerate.

12 weeks out of leave then retire in Feb, 2018. yea!
What a ride for 37+ years working in public health.
 
Wow Larry, I did not know you are a cement mason. Was one myself for over 30 years. Will be retired now for 6 years Oct. 1st. I sure can relate to your pain, my knees are holding up pretty good so far. Now my back and left hip are a different story. It sure aint an easy way to earn a living. Hang in there brother.
 
Bi-lateral. You are a brave man. My (late) mom had one knee done and she stated she wished she had done it sooner. I have no experience, yet. But I have done damage; some sports some work related. So, I'm sure this will be in my future. Good luck, heal up and DO YOUR PT!!!
 
Larry, sorry you are missing the season but it hasn't been much of a season here and it already feels like fall !! 52 degrees this morning.

My uncle was just telling us today that he needs both knees done. My brother in law promptly offered to trade him places. He checked into the hospital yesterday with a headache and after 3 cat scans found out today he has spots on his liver, a mass on 1 lung and 4 tumours on his brain. So to him the knees would be a walk in the park!!

Robert sorry to hear about your uncle,thanks for replys,much appreciated.They gave me a spinal ,first time,a nerve block in each leg,and intervenous propanol,still woke up for much of the operation,would ask for more to put me back under,right leg moved hours later ,left leg didn't move for 24 hrs scary and strange.
 
Both of my knees are bone on bone. Have been putting the operation off, like 'forever'. Always have an excuse at the time but now I have a reason to extend the knee repair for a bit longer. Last Monday, September 4, I lost my footing. Stepped off of a concrete slab and fell while I was helping Joe move some lumber. Broke my hip at the femur. Guess what everyone! I now have a new hip!! Hip, hip , hooray!!!!. Came home Friday without having to go to rehab. Working on getting well.

Ruth, Good to have you back, and glad your home with that new hip. One of the most often heard comments from those who are "Post Op" was Why didn't I do this a long time ago. Not everyone gets the motivational boost you did, (well for the hip). Now you have a good connection to a good ortho doc, and you can know where to go for the new knees.

Best in the rehab and the future getting pain free.

Ruth sorry to hear about your accident,glad your in recovery and operation is over.My knees are finally getting to where im glad there replaced,almost feeling totally better,good luck with yours.Thanks Stan for well wishes.
