Report from Retireland

Well, I had my annual checkup at the local VA clinic. All is well, so I celebrated with the big breakfast at McDonalds. No senior coffee and burrito with two hot sauce today! I love that place, the VA clinic I mean. My nurse practitioner, Ms. Carter, seems genuinely interested in how I'm doing, and always follows up with a letter explaining my lab numbers. I get a chance to swap corpsman sea stories with the Mike, the physician assistant there. Also enjoyed talking Mariners baseball with the guys and gal in the waiting room. I do love the "old guys", Ibanez, Blanco, and Morales. Well, at 77, I'm 36 years older than Ibanez, but he's still the old guy to me. I'm hoping he gets home run 301 this week. Hope is a good thing. While having breakfast at McDonalds I saw on CNN that things are looking up with Putin, the Pope, and now this Rouhani guy from Iran. Who woulda thought? And then, when I got home and checked in with the Brats I found that the C-Brats burgee might actually happen. A good day, a very good day...

It's always good to hear from you Marty. You're like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. So happy to hear you had a great check-up.

May there be many more good days in your future. :thup Go M's!!

anyone who can discuss the Mariners with a positive attitude is alright in my book :thup
What can I say? Like Sancho Panza sang, "I like [them], I really like [them]".

do you go to a lot of games? we usually buy tickets for 22 games (4 seats) right next to the visitors dugout for employees / customers. we should see about a c-brats gathering next spring at Safeco ;)

I've been a life long fan of the M's from day 1; through thick and thin, mostly thin :(
Yeah this season has mostly sucked. But it will be interesting to see how the young kids shake out. As the old Brooklyn Dodgers use to say, "wait 'll next year..."

Marty - I'm only 57 but I've been putting off the colon test for years, Finally got up the nerve this time and was happy with the results,,,,,,, now who would think that getting the news that "your shits OK" would make somebody so happy???

Passed out one time getting blood work done(I think they took a few extra vials to sell)!! No problems the last few times though - guess I'm a big boy now!!

Have a great day

Well, to bring this around to boating--a couple of years ago I sublet a slip from a guy who was a gastroenterologist at the UW Med center. I asked him one time why, when they could do such sophisticated stuff, they couldn't come up with a better tasting drink. After all, that's the worst part of the whole exam. He just laughed said something like "that C-Dory sure is a cute boat".

Marty,

Congrats on the good results. And for the good experience at the VA. It's a good place with good people and they have a pretty tough job. Sounds like you are getting excellent care there and doing a pretty good job of taking care of yourself. Glad you enjoyed the celebration breakfast.

Great to have you here and look forward to your posts.... always a highlight.

Looking forward to many, many more.

That drink isn't called "Go Litely" by accident. Somebody did that with a wink.

And speaking of retirement...... The last issue of Boat US Magazine has a collection of short retirement stories including the story of "Egret" The first power pleasure craft to do a southern ocean circumnavigation, (around the southern capes). Yup, a bit larger than a C-Dory, but they still have the right idea. Now they are headed north.

BoatUS mag did not mention our own El and Bill, but then not too long ago they had a feature article about them.

Retirement ....... Marty, you are doing it well. keep it up my friend.

Thanks Harvey Harvey,

I'll try not to mix too many metaphors, but the VA is an oasis of caring in a desert of disinterest, or an island of compassion in a sea of, well you get my feelings. The care there is professional, respectful, and truly caring. With all the health insurances I have I could go anywhere and never worry about even a deductible or coinsurance, but I choose to go to the VA ....'nuf said I think.
