Rescued a C-Dory

Jack in Alaska

After 3 years and many phone calls/emails I have finally purchased my dream C-Dory and rescued it from a life in Fla. We will drag it to Alaska where it belongs.
I purchased a "new to me" 2005 C-Dory 26' ProAngler with a 200 hp Honda in W. Palm Beach. It is the absolute last one available, hull no. 21.
After my failed barganing session 3 yrs. ago I had given up on ever owning one. But several days ago the same boat came back on the market on EBay in W. Palm Beach as the owner failed to make his payments and it was repo'ed. It only had 100 more hours on it for a total of 143 hrs.. Still looks brand new. YEEHAAA

After missing out buying it 3 yrs. ago I had reluctantly convinced myself that keeping my 1983 22' Classic was the sensible thing to do. But as I approach the twilight of my life and survived the big prostate C, I look differently at things. If I was ever going to have a new boat I had to jump when it came available. Two nights ago I found it on EBay at 1 AM. After several seconds I made a bid, woke up my wife and told her I found my dream boat again and we were going to own it. After a survey on Tues and more money to the dealer we will own it.
Now if anyone knows an economical way to get it from W. Palm Beach Fla to the Salt Lake/Boise area in the next few weeks I would really appreciate an e-mail. We will tow it from there up the Ak. Hyw. ourselves.
Thanks for any help on the towing. Life is good.......

My sons are interested in my Classic so it may stay in our family.

Woo-hoo! She's a beauty! We're available to you for a stop on the way through if you can tell us when. We have ample parking and a guest bedroom. Drop us a line.

Congrats!

Congratulations! We did nearly the same thing last month. We bought a used 22' Cruiser in FL and toed it to north ID. We did stop for a couple days at Lake Powell on the way home to rinse it off. Fuel has increased a bit since then, but we were paying in the $1.85-$2.00/gal. area for most of the trip. Wish we had known of your good fortune earlier. Our son just drove from FL to ID last week empty.
Let me know if you can not come up with a reasonable alternative, I may be able to help.

I don't know what your definition of reasonable is, but Cory Gracey delivers boats all over for C-Dory and Ranger dealers. You can get a hold of him through Marc at Wefings or call him at 425-508-0802. I think delivering a Tom Cat from WA to FL was about $6K, if I remember my conversation with him correctly. Come to think of it, that might have been a round-trip price. Best to get a quote directly!

Yeah, I would second the suggestion to get ahold of Cory...it's what he does, he is a friend of C-Dory and Ranger folks. Marc's endorsement is good enough for me. I actually met Cory a while ago (a certain shipment from Wefings headed my way), and he'll be taking a certain adult beverage back to Marc the next time we can hook up at Exit 27...

Jack,

I am currently idle in North Florida and would be glad to go to W. Palm and pick up your boat then deliver it to Boise for $1.30/mile one way (appx. $4,500). I have plenty of experience trailering CD25's, TomCats and Ranger tugs all over the country, about 60,000 miles worth in the last three years. I have been looking for a way to get up that way (Boise, Mt. Home) to look at some jobs anyway. Let me know if I can be of assistance, PM or phone.

Jack, congrats....looks like a great boat. I viewed the video on ebay, and was almost ready to bid on the boat myself. Looks like the ride is great, and I like the walkaround and high rails. Looks like you only need to add a heater, downriggers, and a kicker. Have fun! Ron

Congratulations Jack, looks like a capable fishing machine. Should allow you to extend into the gulf on days that would have been marginal for your 22 classic.

Also considered purchasing a boat from the East coast but was fortunate to procure one in WA at an acceptable price, figured it cost me $1600 to drive down and hall back.

My original plan if I purchased a boat on the East coast was to fly down, procure a truck to hall the boat back, than sell the truck on this end for hopefully a small profit.

Good luck with your new boat, I’m sure you’ll enjoy many joyful days at her helm.

Charlie, What mileage guide are you using? My ten year old road atlas has Miami to Boise, Id at 2865 miles with 67 miles between Miami and w. Palm Beach. Your calculations of $1.30 /mile one way for $4500 indicates a mileage of 3461. Am I missing something?

The search is over...........I have arranged with Cory (thanks Pat) to have it pulled from Fla. to Wenatchee, Wa. all insured and cared for by an expert C-Dory hauler.

THese websites are just great.

Thanks for all the ideas. comments and help in finding a transporter.

We will tow it ourselves from Wenatchee to Anchorage.

It's nice knowing that not every Tom, Dick and Harry has one of these fine boats. Being a 26' it will make it even that much more unusual! :teeth :thup
Now let the fun begin, adding that personal touch and making it your own. Congrats!

Now if C-dory ever breaks out that mold from the 27' that would capture my attention. :smileo

Congratulations Jack on your new boat. Like wise I understand the excitement of getting a boat you have looked for for years. We just got a 24TC that I'd spent 4 years looking for. Hope you enjoy the heck out of it. Be safe.

Jack, Congratulations and how cool is that. :thup Buy a boat in the opposite corner of the continent and within a day, get it arranged to have it hauled half the way home. :thup Isn't this the greatest site. (Thanks a bunch to Mike and Bill). I think you and I are the record holders for the longest and shortest trips to buy our boats. I went about 3-4 miles, you, more than a thousand times that. Whahoo, what we won't do for these incredible boats. Enjoy, :rainbow and hope all that traveling involved is safe.

Congrats!!!

I was just looking at it yesterday and dreaming about how I could get it for myself. :smilep It makes me happy to know it ended your long quest for a particular boat. :thup

It would be a shame to drive right by SE AK on your way home. Feel free to drop down to Skagway or Haines and explore our neighborhood. A few days in Glacier Bay or Tracy Arm would certainly make your time spent very worthwhile. Let us know if there is anything that we can help you if you decide to explore SE.

So what are ya gong to name her, Jack?
You already have High Tide...hmmm...Low Tide might seem like a demotion...let's see there's Ebb, Flood, Neap...

I think you're going to have a blast. I can almost feel the halibut tremble in fear at the thought of what's coming! Can't wait to see what projects you have in store.
