Donna & Rick (416rigby) were at our home this morning (Bellingham). They said to tell all of you hello. They left here about 9:45 AM. They'll be picking up their C-Dory (FOGGY DEW) in Nevada, then heading south into Byrdman territory. We wish we could have kept them in the PNW. Really enjoyed their company. Just great folks :thup

Byrdman, you have new neighbors!

Rick phoned today to let us know that Foggy Dew and family have arrived in Alabama. Sure happy to hear that they had a good safe trip. Rick said that there wasn't any problems towing their new CD or with their pickup. Slept on the CD as planned except for one night when the mosquitoes chased them into a motel room.

Welcome to the South Rick and Donna , that outrigger trolling trip can happen any time ! Look forward to seeing you again .

Whew! What a lonnnnnngggggg drive...3300 miles! It went very well, though. No major hiccups. We'll post more later. Been real busy getting set up in our new home...and tinkering with the boat...still waiting on our stuff to be delivered...could be a couple more weeks yet.

Thanks again to Ruth and Joe...you guys are wonderful and your hospitality won't be forgotten!

Marc...we're very much looking forward to getting together with you and doing some fishing after we get settled in sometime. We'll give you a call for sure. We enjoyed your company at the Pensacola show...I think we'll have fun no matter what we catch!

It's been way too hot for us Alaskans to be out on the water...we're shooting for a sea trial on Tuesday. I did hook up the rabbit ears yesterday and fired up the engine in the driveway. I think we're going to really enjoy this boat.

That's all just great to hear!

I bet the little climate change is pretty noticeable. But imagine how miserable it would be if ou had towed some other brand of boat that far.

Hey Rick and Donna!!! Welcome to "Balmy-Bama". OK, put all those dark t-shirts away until winter. They will work good under longer shirts in the winter. Keep the pictures of yourselves in the heavy coats. You may travel back up north sometime...and you'll have forgotten how to put them on. Go ahead and start figuring out how you and Donna are going to AC your boat... for sleeping at night at least. Be sure you have a good boarding ladder on your boat. As you can tell...ya gotta stay wet during the day down here to make it tollerable. :smiled Yep that is a long drive...but .... it should have been a cool trip now that the impresion of your truck seat is off yur cheeks... Sherryl and I are up in TN, and will return for Tuesday thru Friday, then will be gone again till 10Jul06. Then....sometime around 14-17Jul06, I will be heading down to Apalachicola to pick up C-Byrd....and do some "pre-cooking"/grill testing at John's river house, the location of our October Gathering. I like to cook in a pit a time or two prior to the gang showing up. Sending you my cell phone nubmer again just in case it is "in temporary storage".... or in one of the brief cases/bags you are traveling with. Talk soon. Great to have you down...and if you want to go to Lake Martin on Tuesday/Wednesday... I will be glad to show you around.

.What a great time was had in Lake Martin Alabama with our new C-Dory owning frieds who just arrived from Alaska!!

Introduced the couple to the finer arts of boating in the 97 degree heat with 85%+ humidity....and a little "noodle riding" to beat the heat and enjoy the boat.

Rick and Donna for sure have a beautiful C-Dory. A very succesful intial launch, C-Trial & recovery.... and the noodle training had both of the crew "noodle certified" by days end....all be it a bit red'r bodies... :smiled :thup

Thanks, Patrick...we owe ya!! We had a wonderful time on the lake...84 degree water! Heck, in Kodiak, jumping into the water was a BAD thing...down here it's how ya survive! This heat and humidity is killin' us.

The Byrdman was a great help showing us the hazard spots on the lake to be aware of and also just showing us around. We just love the boat...and having Patrick onboard for the first run was a whole mess of fun. :thup

We should have our new name and numbers for the boat by Friday, and we'll officially christen her with a pint of Guinness. :beer

Now, you don't think we're going to let you off easy, do you? Here's Patrick on his noodle.

Hey Rick, how about throwing a couple 'a shots of that bait tank system into your album, k? I'm interested in seeing how he accomplished it.

Don

Don,
We will try to get those pics in our album tomorrow....been having way to much fun here! We have a few more interesting ones as well of some other things the previous owner did.
Rick

Super. Thanks, Rick. I initially called the seller 'cause I wanted to see it and thought it was local. Looks like you got yourself a great boat.

Don

Looks like you folks are having a great time in the deep south! Here on the River and Bay in Virginia, we've still got the bilge pumps running after 10-15" of rain in the past few days.

Quote: Here's Patrick on his noodle.

Quite a sight. Are harpoons banned in the lake? Hope so...  :disgust

Miss ya Byrdman, when you coming North again!

Charlie

Yep...we're having way too much fun. Hey, hope you folks getting all that rain can get dried out soon.

Don, I put some pics in our album for you.

Nice photos, Rick. He's definitely got it set up for Mexican waters. I'm looking at a much more modest installation that doesn't require a thru hull. If it doesn't work as advertised, I'm gonna be duplicating your setup for sure.

Don

Sorry to annouce to the group but Rick lost his Father who had been ill on 6Oct06. I am attempting to contact him due to not having heard from him or Donna since notification email on the 6th.

Yall have him give me a call...or drop me a PM or email...

Byrdman

Thanks for thinking of us, Patrick. Sorry for the miscommunication, but it was Donna's dad who left us. We were able to travel to Toronto and spend some time with him, and he died a few days after we came home. We're very thankful for that. His funeral was yesterday.

Rick

Rick and Donna,

Congrats on the fun of inland and ocean fishing both. Good luck fitting the gear for both in at one time. I was admiring your curtains in the recent photos. Looked like a nice system for quick deployment and storage. I couldn't really figure out how they attached "rolled up with straps and snaps?" Could you explain a little bit? Also I notice you have an external window cover behind your cockpit rod rack. Why is that and how does that work out?

My boat is put away for winter but maybe some curtains would be a good winter project.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks for the nice comments. We can't take much credit for the curtains because the original owner made them. We did, however, replace the webbing that holds them in the rolled up position. They were badly deteriorated from the sun. We just got some nylon webbing and snaps and screwed them on. I don't know if all boats have that piece of teak above the windows or if the original owner added them. They are nice looking and handy to attach your curtains to.

We use the curtains all the time. When the boat is on the trailer, we keep them all down because the sun is relentless. Keeps the boat a lot cooler, too. The best thing is that they are so simple and quick to roll up and down.

Those sunbrella covers on the aft cabin windows are snapped to a plastic mesh (don't know exactly what they are made of) but the mesh is snapped to the bulkhead and the covers snap to them. We simply roll the covers up when we are underway and leave the mesh down for shade. You can easily see out through them. We just roll them and tuck the end into the grab handle next to it to keep it up.

I posted some new pics in our projects album. Simple and inexpensive little project.

So here is why Donna was tooling about the docks signing....
"I'm...to sexy for my shoooooes."

Now here are a pair of C-Dory specials.
