Rubrail end cap missing (CC23)

When we re-trailered "Katmai" after cruising this summer I noticed that the rubrail end cap (port side aft) was missing. I have no idea how it happened, but the smallish end cap is gone.

I cannot find a replacement in the West Marine catalog, and my local boat repair-buy hasn't located a source for end cap. I will try calling C-Dory today, but the email address listed on their website comes back as undeliverable.

...so it's time to turn to the source of all C-Dory knowledge: The C-Brats.

Does anyone know of a source for the end cap on a 2006 Cape Cruiser23?

Thanks.

Best,
Casey&Mary

I don't know, but in case it might help: There is a manufacturer called "Taco" who makes quite a few rubrails/endcaps and that sort of thing. Boatbuilders may use their products.

I would provide a link but I can't Google right now (the horror).

Casey-

Is the end cap on the Cape Cruiser the same as the C-Dorys*?

Most of us with C-Dorys don't know if you've got the same end cap we do or..?

If different, a photo would help, I'd think.

Good Luck!

Joe. :teeth :thup

* I know the plural of Dory is Dories, but I like the Dorys better!

Hi Casey. The newer 2010+ have a heavier cap that wraps around the corner the older boats use a trim cap that likely came from Taco industries. Should be available it's the small pointy trim piece that butts to the rubrail? The new style is really robust and I think Taco makes it also. George

A few years ago, I had a boat with the cap missing, and could not find an exact match, so a bought a pair of newer matching caps which did fine.

Progress ... sort of.

I spoke to Greg at Triton Marine. He advised that the Cape Cruiser rubrail end caps were manufactured by Morris Ind. (800-325-7513). ...but he didn't have any.

Morris Industries no longer carries any rubrail items either, but recommended that I call Rubrails.com (954-942-1448). I was unable to contact "Alan" at Rubrails on the phone, but it appears that they didn't have the missing part. Maybe he'll call me back.

Somewhere on this scavenger hunt I ran across Tacomarine.com. The replacement parts part of their website shows several types of endcaps. A close, but not an exact replacement, appears to be a SS endcap (Part F16-0039 for $19.10 + shipping. This part is a replacement for rubrails that are 1 9/16 x 3/4" or 1 5/8 x 5/8".

If I can't find the exact part we will probably just order the item from Taco.

...gee, when we go to the next CBGT will folks laugh at us if our rubrail endcaps don't' match???

Best,
Casey&Mary

Nah...you Cape Cruiser/Venture guys are already so funny it'd be piling on to point out your boat's aren't even the same from side to side!

Received an email from Andy at Rubrails.com. His rubrail kits use a different kind of end cap, and separate parts are not available.

There is a place over toward Crystal River (FL) that specializes in trailers, but has a warehouse full of miscellaneous parts. We may take a drive over there and scrounge around. Failing that I'll just order the missing cap from Taco Marine ... and hope Barry doesn't notice the gapping error the next time he does a USCG/A inspection.

Best,

Casey,
There is also a place at Fort Pierce FL which has a lot of odds and ends from discontinued manufactures. (Marine Connection Liquidators). Also Sailorman in Ft Lauderdale and "Don's Marine Salvage Yard" in Clearwater have a number of items in stock. You can send any of these a photograph and measurements, and they will see if they have that item in stock. We used to have a place here in Pensacola, but they just could not make it thru the recession and folded.

Good luck on the hunt. You can always cut the very end of the rail down--and get two matching pieces from Taco.

Casey, the exact same part was missing when we bought our 2006 CC last year. I checked with Scott at C-Dory and at his request sent him a photo of the part on the starboard side. I also included the measurements of it. He then found it in their existing stock. You might try checking with him directly. Cost me $15 and it was a perfect match.

Yep, when I got my boat in had one missing. Checked with Scott and he found the perfect match. I sent pictures and measurements which helped him find the correct one.

I spoke to Greg at C-Dory and found that they don't have any more of the 'old end caps (evidently they're using a slightly different part now), so it appears that you may have gotten the last two. Seems strange that this end cap is an item that's often 'lost. Hmmm....

We're planning to take a drive over toward Crystal River this afternoon to check on a place that carries a lot of miscellaneous pieces-parts. The drive will mostly be a "...get off the reservation" trip for us. (The Villages is a great place to live, but sometimes 'ya gotta "get off the reservation")

We're hoping to spend a few weeks on the St. John's River toward the end of October. Then, hopefully we'll do the South Florida Loop again - maybe in December and January.

Life isn't good: it's Great!

When your talking about stock parts from limited or low production boats you just have to remember the rolling stones. " you cant always get what you want, but it you try real hard, you just might find, you can get what you need"

close enough is a life style I fully embraces.
