Safety Lanyards are those spiral wires which connect to an engine kill switch at the rear of a throttle and gearshift control body. Do you clip the lanyard to your wrist, clothing, or PFD when operating your C-Dory?

My engine on-off switches are on the cabin front bulkhead, not by the throttle controls so the safety lanyard is kind of pointless. I removed it entirely and would have done so even if it had been by the controls. It seems to me that such lanyards are intended mainly for PWC and small outboards where the likelihood of going overboard from the helm is real, not for an enclosed cabin boat where the operator may be getting up to move around in the normal course of events.
 
Call me overly cautious, but in my 19 when it gets a bit nasty out, and I am alone, I will slip the lanyard, which I connected to a rubber bracelet, around my wrist. I would not like to see my boat motoring away from me, as I go for one last swim. :shock: Agreed, enclosed cabin, different situation. Robbi
