we have going to victoria on our radar for this summer we do however cross the straits from sequim to get to friday harbor its a 34 mile trip and we taking our time make it in around 1.5 hours on flat seas one time on bad seas took 4.5 hours... i would think(without looking) pa to victoria should be about the same.

Jury duty wrapped up this week, so will be checking out Sequim probably Wednesday-Thursday. Roger, will be in contact. Tom, if I go that route will get ahold of you. Didn't realize the town was the size to support home improvement stores. All the comments were positive. No one has anything negative to say? Thanks to all for the information.

Sorry for the delayed response. Just have not been able to be here very often lately. (Here being both the C-Brat site and Sequim.)
Most of what has been said about Sequim so far is pretty accurate. Just a newbee here (8+ years), so this is my opinion only. Property is not cheap here, and though you may have a Sequim address, unless you are outside of the city limits, you will not be on waterfront property. John Wayne is a nice marina, well kept and reasonable launch fees. They do, however, roll up the wash rack for the winter. but the docks remain. Not everyone here are displaced Californians; we have one of the highest concentrations of retired commercial airline pilots in the country. That comes from the fact that these are guys who spent their whole professional lives looking at weather and weather patterns. The nickname "Blue Hole" comes from the trans pacific pilots being able to see the ground first as they crossed over our rain shadow spot.
Sequim (or as the license plate in the 101 Diner says "SKWIM") is the home of the oldest continuous community festival in the state -- the Irrigation Festival. And also one of the most expensive for city water in the state.
But just to be fair, we have dogs that bite, cops who write tickets, no Starbucks on every corner, and only a few days above 80 a year. And yes, we are only an inch or two from Seattle on the map but it will take 2-3 hours to get there from here, at least one ferry ride or a toll bridge fair of $5+ or about 150 mile drive through the state capital.
Do I like it here, Yup I do, is it for everyone. Nope it's not. Would it be a good place for you? You have to come and try it out would be my bet.

Liver and onions -- YES. (Didn't know so I called them.) No, they don't have a web site, but they do have good food, and and interesting, "retro" decor, which for me seems just right but to some would seem dated (and that's the appeal for others :shock: :lol: so it all works.)
They have good breakfasts, and fish and chips are pretty good too.
And since Hiway 101 used to run right through town, there position on Washington Street, the main east-west street, is fully appropriate.

This area was at the top of our list of places to retire from the military, which I did a couple months ago. There are over 20,000 veterans in Clallam County. We've been here 3 years and there's really not much not to like, politics aside.
If you have to have shopping malls and city life, Sequim is not for you. If you want a laid back, easy going, small town lifestyle and great weather, then you'll fit right in. We live right in the middle between Sequim and PA, and we end up going to Sequim for just about everything.
The job market, like many places, is not good, so be sure to check this out for your wife, if she is going to be working.
As far as outdoor stuff, hunting access will take some homework, because of the park there is not a lot of public access. Fishing can be pretty good and lot of us fish. There is a Puget Sound Anglers chapter in Sequim. There is no formal gun club here for rifles, so you'll have to go to Port Townsend unless you want to just go up in the woods and find a safe spot. There is a Sporting Clays course near where I live, in Agnew, and Port Angeles has a trap club.
Port Angeles has a Farmer's Market that's pretty popular.
It will be a lot drier here than where you are now. We get almost no snow, if you are smart and buy your home below 500 feet elevation.
One of the local jokes is:
"Sequim is where the retired people from Port Angeles go.........to visit their parents." :lol:
