After a few camping seasons at murrels inlet trying to catch these fish at the jetty, finally caught three on my latest trip. What ive learned is to chum with barnicles ,and use fiddler crabs for bait .Keep line in fingers to feel for bite it can be light. Some people use oysters or shrimp as bait. I was starting to believe I was never going to hookup. They have a set of choppers for crushing barnicles and other crustaceans. Im guessing others on this site have caught them. It made my trip finally getting a few. They are a good tasting fish also. I think fishing from boat would be easier than dealing with jetty and tides. Also caught some Spanish mackerel.

sounds like a good time, how about some pics to share for those of us stuck in the offseason up north

Sheepshead are true bait stealers. I have found smaller hooks and smaller peeled pieces of shrimp do the trick. My first experience with Sheepshead was off the jetty in New Smyrna Beach. The gentleman next to me was pulling in one large Sheepshead after another eventually filling up a small garbage can. It is much easier catching them off the boat especially if you can anchor over a deep drop off and drop the bait straight down to the fish below.

Im not real good at posting pictures, did it only once . Need a refresher course from daughter when she comes by. Im still using a flip phone also.
