Side Guides

I recently replaced the carpet covering on the side guides of my trailer. I marked the location of the U-clamps and tired to replace the guides to their original location. My problem is that the center of one of the guides seems to be touching or almost touching the boat hull. I assume that this situation will cause some wear on the hull gel-coat. Should I relocate the position of the guide and if so how far should the center of the guide be from the hull?

I had side bunks on my 22 and on the Caracal--never worried about any wear. You are going to be slightly one side or the other, so you might even touch the bunk.

First, be sure that the boat is centered on the trailer, and if not, know why not. (mine has a freshwater intake grill that cannot set on a bunkboard, so the boat is off center on the trailer about an inch.) Then adjust the side guide boards to allow about an inch on each side when the boat is in that most centered position. I have adjusted my guides to keep that FW intake off the bunks now.

I don't think you have to worry about touching the guides, unless they are vibrating when traveling. May need a wheel balance (or more) if that is an issue.

Wapiti - If you had a tire out of balance on the guide side that is touching your hull, some ge coatl wear could occur due to vibration.

I could have sworn I read a post awhile back that suggested using Liquid Roller on the bunks to help with loading and straightening my C-Dory on the trailer. I searched for the post, but no luck.
I am having dreams where my C-Dory slides off the trailer as I drive up the ramp after retrieval due to spraying the bunks with Liquid Roller...am I just making up problems or is this a possibility? Recommendations?

You are using the bow strap/line/cable and the safety chain, aren't you? If so, the boat may move a little bit, but then you tighten it back up when you're on the level.

We just use the Liquid Rollers on our windows.
