SJ Islands 4th of July

OK, this is really thinking ahead here.....

If all the stars line up, we will be ready to head to the mid-July Bellingham CBGT around the first of July. I was pondering going up on the 3rd and finding a harbor close to where the kids might get to see a good fireworks show. I don't have the radar replaced yet so I am not keen on running too far from port in the dark. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Last year we watched a wonderful fireworks show at Eastsound on Orcas Island. We were staying at Rosario Resort and the run up the sound from there was very easy. There were about 25 boats anchored for the show and it seemed almost like the fireworks were exploding right above us. They really weren't. The show lasted at least 30 minutes. It was very dramatic.

Although the rooms at the resort are expensive, you can use all of the resort facilities if you have a slip or one of their moorings.

I recommend Eastsound.

Lopez has pretty phenomenal fireworks. I can't comment on availabilty of dock space or moorage on that sure-to-be-busy day though.

Anacortes (Cap Sante Marina) also has a really nice fireworks show. It is directly across from our house on Guemes. A lot of people anchor in the bay right in front of Cap Sante ( 25 ft depth) We are about a mile and half directly north of that. You are welcome to tie up to our buoy in Cooks Cove during or after. Anna Leigh and Daydream will be returning from the Ketchikan trip about the 7th-8th. We will be to the Bellingham week-end as far as I know.

Thanks for the ideas. We got another invite of sorts in a PM and we are now leaning toward the Oak Harbor show. We traditionally launch at Deception Pass and spend the first night there at the marina visiting with the locals. So it should work out good.

My vacation was approved and it's on the books for July 1 through July 26. We missed it last year because something came up at the last minute, so we are really looking forward to an extended stay this time around.

Thanks for the suggestions and offers. See you there.

It looks like we'll be there in time for the show. We're still planning to watch the Oak Harbor fireworks since we'll be very close and it might take Dusty more than a couple days for his fishfinder and radar lessons. And of course he will need to take a boat ride to grade the final exam.

We still haven't made a plan for where to go and what to do while we're there. Just the way I like my vacations! We'll probably spend as many nights at marinas with power as we do in the wild, and the kids say we have to stay at Lopez a couple times for the swimming pool. I don't know when I lost control. I'm not so sure I ever had it.

Anyone who's going to be floating around, be sure and let us know when and where to look.

My wife and I will be at Rosario this weekend thru the 4.
We plan on a little whale watching and general lookin' around.
Most important keep wife happy as its her first salt water trip.
We will come in to the islander at Lopez for lunch one day and
look you up.

We'll be at Birch Bay rebuilding the deck over the long weekend (got the 3rd off with comp time), as Daydream will still be making its way south. If the weather holds, this will be PRIME cruising weekend in the SJs!

Steve and I will both be working -- seems my new job has gone from half time to full time (they asked that the first day I worked) to "can you work 10 hour days" in the first month! These next couple weekends we'll be looking for some salmon out of Newport...wanna float that far? :P
