While halibut fishing last week I caught a 6' sleeper shark by the tail in 155' of water and 5 knot current in the Cook Inlet.
Let me tell you that was a real struggle but I got him to the surface, got the hook out of him and let it go. I did not know what a sleeper shark was until then but after a little Googling I found out all about them. :o
 
That must be the same as a basking shark. If so, not sure they are even a real member of the shark family. Seems like I recall hearing they were related to some clan of sunfish. I know they get huge, I was standing on the fishbox of a dory one time when one passed under us, about 10 feet down. Looked like a greyhound bus.
