Small 1000 series LCD JRC Radars?

Anyone have an opinion on the JRC 1000 series small LCD radars? Any thoughts
on the older 1000 vs. the newer MKII? Better to go for the Furuno 16xx or 17xx series?
I have modest needs (well, wants, no, needs... :-) )

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

I have a JRC 1000 radar. The usable range for me is about 3 miles...not too great, but most of the time I am using a range setting of 1 mile or less, where it works fine. The antenna (dome) is smaller than most, making it a little more to scale with a 22 ft. cruiser.

Thanks. The one I was looking at on Ebay has an auction end by the
time I have finished writing this. I'm not going to make that quick
of a decision. Looks like it is going for a fair price at $515.

(Heh...went to $611 at one minute to go...let's wait....ended at $611.
Still not too bad, I guess. A new one internet retails at about $1,000)

I've not heard anything bad about the JRC stuff and I looked on ebay too before buying the Furuno 1623. I guess the thing about ebay that bothered me was when you see a line like" New display, Lost Antenna". So in other words the display was the only thing you could get off the boat you were pilfering easily and you had to leave the Antenna! My skepticism has always been my undoing but unpacking the Factory new unit abated any fears.
Now I did buy a boat load of like new Penn reels and did real good!

Heh. I love the ones where they only have the head unit, no
power cables, etc.

When I market on Ebay, and I have done so several times, I do lots
of photos, with all manuals, etc, so the buyer can be assured that
the device powers up and comes complete. I make sure I photograph
the mount, the cables, the manual, etc. The extra $1.50 or so I spend on
extra photos is well worth it. Also, I don't seem to attract crap bidders that
way. Quite frankly, I'm amazed at how much people will pay. But,
since I don't have a continual sources of quality electronics to offer,
Ebay is only a convenient way of getting rid of decent surplus equipment
I picked up from the boat I bought.

The JRC I was looking at was such a unit.
