Stern Rail on a 22

We just started talking about adding a stern rail to the MOOSE. Any of you that have them, I'd appreciate if you could direct me to a photo of yours and also tell me what you like or don't like about your design. We were thinking about a double rail so that we could mount a detachable table on it. Any info will be appreciated.

Despite no responses from my fellow Brats, we plowed ahead anyway........... We got Bolton Stainless to fab up some 1" rails, 52" mounting bolt-to-bolt. They're quite sturdy, even with no center support. I fabbed up a snap-on fillet/utility table out of Starboard that is also pictured in the MOOSE album.

Nice, clean job Al. Sorry about no posts prior, I could've sent you a pic of our stern rail. It's the standard factory rail but does a good job. Gotta watch the family jewels stepping over the Scotty mounts though... :oops:

They look good. Sorry I missed your first post. I too have the factory bar. I like it so far. I like your fillett table. I think the two bar solution might have more uses then a single bar.

Do you glue the star board stuff together or use screw?
 
I screw the Starboard together. I drill pilot holes, trim any "extrusions" the drilling may have imparted, and then I heat my screws up on a hotplate before putting them in. That way they partially melt their way in and provide a tighter bond.

Moose - looks like a good setup. What is the stainless pipe on the bottom of your engine well for?

It's a three-step dive ladder. I got the idea from Yellowstone John. It stores neatly in the well and then clips into a bracket on the starboard side, just below the juncture of the cabin and the cockpit, during use. The downside is one has to mount the bracket in the middle of that beautiful gelcoat accent strip. But it's not terribly obtrusive and the hand rail assist at the back of the cabin makes getting out of the water quite easy. I've often wondered why more folks haven't adopted John's approach because it's about as compact yet serviceable as one can get.

Thanks for the reply, Moose. I thought it looked like some kind of ladder, just couldn't figure out how it mounted.
 
What I hate is not only did Al do his usual perfect job but his boat practically glows in the dark. Now where did I leave that polishing rag. :wink:
