Success Afield Hunting?

I know there's hunters at this site.... any luck lately? I went out Saturday morning for blacktail "any deer" in my local GMU 564 where any deer is legal but you have to use a shotgun with buckshot or slugs, handgun, muzzleloader or bow and arrow. I found a line of buck rubs along a ridge that should be really interesting in two to three weeks or so as the rut takes off, but nothing otherwise. My young 12 year old nephew Duncan shot his first deer, a whitetail doe, North of Spokane, Wa with his new Mossberg ATR bolt rifle in .243. The range was around 20 yds.... his smile says it all. C.W.

Archery season came in for deer the last day of September, but I haven't really been out yet, with the temps being so high. The rut here in Ohio comes in the first and second week of November and I start hitting it pretty hard in a week or so. Mostly I have been working on tree stands and clearing shooting paths and so on. I have about 8-10 tree stands on our 61 acres in Amish country. (Pics in our album.p5.)

With the cool night temps we've had lately, I'll start doing some bird hunting over my Airedale, Boomer, which is a lot of fun. (Pics of that, too in our album, p5 under Airedales!)

Your nephew should be proud of his first deer.

Regards,

Nick

CW,

That must have been an exciting time for your nephew. Congratulations are in order.

Tomorrow, I am off to SE Oregon for some late season fishing (Redbands and Lahontans), plus I hope to chase some chukar, quail and pheasants with the old twice barrelled shootsgun. Temps have been in the 20's, so long jons are in order.

Steve
