The one that didn't get away

Went fishing w/416 Rigby today out of Freshwater Bay...and had a first.

It was kinda slow, only came home with one small one in the box. However, we had one huge hit that snapped the line...buh-bye flasher and hoochie.

However, a minute or so later Rick saw a flicker in the water behind us that didn't look quite natural. Thought it might be my flasher, so I spun the boat around and head back.

Got closer, and yup - it was my flasher. However, what became clear as we approached it...the leader that was still attached was wrapped around a hefty silver - it was hog tied and worn out.

Got out the net, rescued/released the fish (a native, dammit), and got my rig back! Estimated 14-ish pounder.

Pretty cool story. Glad you got your rig back. Hope the fish did OK too. Guess, at least that made it better than just a boat ride. (Nothing bad about that though). Glad it was a good day, all in all.

God, he was a beautiful fish! He was very thick. We tried to get a good photo as we revived him but he had other plans and away he went.

It was one of those outdoor moments that will stay with you. Thanks again for a great day.

That is a pretty fish, and a neat tale. Good going. You should have ran outside and brought him down the coast a ways. For the first time I can remember they are allowing some unmarked coho catch in the ocean off the Columbia river. Now if you could do something about the wind...
