If the entire colored gelcoat stripe or areas of it is looking chalky or has a whitish film or if a wax job gets dull in 2 months with poor mirror reflection you may be dealing with gelcoat oxidation, and touch up 'paint' may not be the answer in that vintage boat.
If so, the cure involves removing wax (Simple Green or even WD-40 by the gallon at Lowes works) and wet-sanding (ye gads!) with 3m 400 or 600 then 800, 1000, 1500, 2000g sandpaper in a bucket of hot water with a few drops detergent, frequent rinses, and changing water between each grit change.
Any oxalic acid product can also work after de-waxing but pits the trailer and with less control over problem areas.
So, hope you're talking about a few scratches or nicks and not oxidation.
