Trade: Ranger 25 for C-Dory

Lucky Fin is for sale. 150 Cumins, Loaded. Would consider a 16 foot C-Dory on trade. Or a Tom Cat 225. Looking to be a two boat owner. One for fishing and one for 6 months live aboard.

I am trying to sort this out--you had the first Ranger 25, and then traded for one with the Cummins 150. Now you want either a 16 C Dory or a Tom Cat 255?

So what is the "Trade" for the Tom Cat? Straight across? Black hull--doesn't show the oil as badly.
 
Bob, don't know if you follow the TugNuts or not but he's the guy that went over to the Bahamas for a couple of weeks this spring and posted almost every day. Quite an adventure by trailer all the way to Fla. He also put gasoline in his diesel truck by mistake from a green nozzle at a BP (sound familiar?) station when he almost was home.

A great story if you have time to read it and lots of nice pictures on the site.

Guess I need to explain a little............ Dee ( my wife ) does not want to rough it anymore. She wants a walk around berth. So it is either go into the 29 ft. Ranger and end up with a C-dory for fishing. Which to me is the best of both worlds. I would stop towing the Ranger 7000 or more miles every year. I put up the Northern lite pickup camper for sale as well. A 16 ft c-dory would stay here in Montana for fresh water fishing. With a trip to Alaska once in awhile. My boating would stay in the great northwest in the future. The gulf may be a poor place to boat for a few years.

We lived on the Lucky Fin for 4 months last season. The weather was bad all winter long . Dee was not a happy camper. I enjoyed every minute , cold or not. The trip to the Abacos was terrific.

Money wise I would have to have cash difference on a trade, but thought it may be possible that someone may be a c-dory owner out there somewhere that may want to upgrade to a Ranger. I have $170,000 in the Lucky Fin. Someone could save a lot of money outright or save some more by doing a little trading.

I love the Lucky Fin with the setup we now have. The solar allowed us to live aboard for 4 months and never having to plug in to a marina or start the genset. Using 12 volts for everything. Frig running 24/7, two computers, coffee maker, ECT. Dingy setup with the Pudgy worked flawlessly. But time to move on....

Someone is going to get a great boat with the Lucky Fin. I enjoyed following your travels this past winter. You really have a good set-up with that boat.

Our tastes and travel styles change... I can understand the appeal of a bigger boat that you'd base in one location and a smaller boat to travel with. We did that with sailboats before buying Wild Blue.

Trail in therable boats are always a compromise--mostly because of the beam restrictions. There can be walk around bunks with a trailerable cat--but it would have to be custom made.

If you are going to go with a boat in the water, then it pays to go to considerably larger boats--which give you a lot more for the dollar. There are plenty of places where you can dry store a larger boat on land, off season, and avoid the costs and wear and tear of leaving a boat in the water.

Thanks for the explanation. We might consider the Ranger tug, but because of a sand bar at the entranc is e to our bayou, we went to outboard boats, from trawlers.

Now if the price was right--for a boat to be kept in the PNW--that might work out.
