Trailering the R25

John Livington at the C-Ranger factory tows them around almost every day with his Dodge 2500 diesel. Of course, they are pretty empty.

I'm towing mine with an identical truck with a tow rig rated at 10,000 pounds with no problems. I believe that it is between 8,500 and 9,000 pounds. However, in the next week or so, I can give you a more definitive answer since I've found a convenient place to weigh it and plan to do just that. I'll post the result on this thread.

Towing the R25 is less of a problem than I was expecting. It's big and long and you have to pay attention in traffic and on city streets and all that but I've been pulling it up and down I-5 with no significant problem. You do have to watch out for the gawkers that drive along side for a closer look but they are usually all smiles and thumbs up and the pretty girls wave so it's a small price to pay.........
 
Finally had the opportunity to put the R-25 on a scale today.

It weighed 9, 020 pounds. That's with 60 - 65 gallons of diesel, a full water tank, less than two gallons in the waste tank, and with a 70 pound dinghy on board. Includes all of our normal cruising gear except for some clothes, some additional bottled water and other beverages and food. The fridge is empty.

Add another 100 pounds of diesel plus a couple of hundred pounds for all the rest, it would nominally top out about 9,300 pounds for Mood Magic and trailer. This is heavier than I was estimating but well within what I can easily tow.

As I said in an earlier post, it's big and heavy but it tows pretty well.

I tow mine with a 2007 Cadillac EXT that has the new 405 hp engine and it takes every bit of all it has to pull this boat and trailer even on the flat land of South Florida.

Sounds like that 2007 Cadillac EXT is beyond its tow capacity of 7600 lbs.

I would want a one ton truck to tow a Ranger 24--Amazing how much weight these puppies can put on!
 
I tow ours very easily with a 1/2 ton Dodge Ram crew cab pickup, 4 by 4, that has the 5.7 Hemi engine. I also added air "helper" pillows to this "heavy half" as my mechanic calls it. I use the air pillows for long freeway runs but because I am 20 minutes away from my usual launch, the factory suspension is just fine with no noticeable dip in the rear end.
 
Hitch weight has to be 700 to 1000 lbs. Air bags must work really well, for you, John. I had air on my 1 ton dually. Now I have gone to 1 1/2 ton 450 ford diesel and just installed Timberens. The only reason I did all this upgrading is, I load a 11 1/2 ft slide in camper with a slide out. Must be well over 4000 lbs. The big problem is I needed a 5 ft hitch extension on the hitch. Now putting 1000 lbs on the end of that creates a lot of torque. The back end of the 1 ton sat down about 4 to 6 inches, even with the air bags set to 90 lbs. I think I got it worked out. Leaving this morning for Bothell to pick up a pudgy dingy. 1st trip with camper on the new truck. should be a piece of cake.
