Has anyone successfully cleaned the foam cushions? We had a helm leak that has oil stained a berth cushion. We have noticed that the foam is wrapped in plastic on the topside. A little leery of pulling the foam out and throwing the fabric in the washing machine. We may really struggle to get it back on with plastic wrap. Also wondered if they need to be dry cleaned?

I wouldn't worry too much about this task. Ive done it lots of times. The berth cushion zips off easily, and goes back on almost as easily. That plastic wrap you just try to get it on as best as you can, if its not perfect going back on you'll never know it once its back in the boat. Its the helm seat that you cant really clean as the cover doesn't zip off. Good luck

Cleaning instructions for Sunbrell.

We have done the stapled on cushions in two ways: Spray with a container with dawn, Woolite and water, or The Fabric cleaner by 303. Then use an upholstery vacuum cleaner to remove the cleaning material, and rinse, repeat..several times. The other way is to remove the staples on the back--this is a bit more difficult, but then you can put in Washer, with a delicate cycle. We always air dry the fabric. We always us Monel metal staples when on the boat items.

Then we apply either Scothguard or the 303 Fabric Protectorant.(use the 303 on out of doors parts, like slant back cockpit cover or Bimini.

For pieces like the Bimini, we may use the cleaner or Dawn soap, on a flat surface, and a brush. rinse, air dry and the 303 protectorant.

Patty here. Once I had a glass bottle of olive oil stored in the galley door. While on the road, the door opened and closed over and over, the bottle broke, and the olive oil went EVERYWHERE! I scrubbed the cushions with Simple Green and hosed them off and let them dry in the sun. Worked great. Since then that is how I always clean them.
