US Coast Guard Certificate of Documentation for 25 Cruiser

We purchased our 2005 25 cruiser in March of this year and would like to obtain a certificate of documentation for Sea Turtle. Anyone out there who has done that and might be willing to share a copy of the calculation sheet that must be submitted to prove that the boat has the minimum 5 net tons cargo capacity required for documented status?

I haven't done it for a 25, but I'd be happy to help you fill in the form (have done the calcs for other boats).

'course if someone has it all done already, that's even easier.

I am curious about this. I did the clacs for my 26' Pearson Ariel with a similar displacement, and only made it work by counting the keel space.

I hear you. I have heard that some folks have documented 22's, but I ran the calcs and couldn't see any way to make it work. Of course I have not tried for the 25, but it is significantly bigger of course.

It's been a while since I've done this, but there are a couple of different ways to calculate it - one way tends to work for keelboats, and the other for non-deep keels. Maybe it counted the pilothouse or something? It'd come back to me if I tried it again, I suppose. Shoot, now I'll have to go look to refresh my memory.

I had my 25 documented when I bought it. You definitely use the simplified calculation, which is:

GRT = (Hull Volume + Deckhouse Volume)/100

Hull Volume = S x K x L x B x D

S (shape factor) = .67 for powerboats
K (keep factor) = 1
L = 25'.333'
B = 8.5'
D = 3.5'

Hull Volume = 504.95 cu ft

Deckhouse volume (doesn't count for our boats since its not greater than the hull volume)

So the 25 comes out to be 5.05 tons the way it was done on my application.

Good luck!
