I would be interested in knowning what kind of voltage your motors are putting out at idle speed and around 3000 RPM.
My Yamaha 75 HP. four cycle is putting out 14.1 volts at start up and 14.8 @ 2300 RPM.
Will this change depending on how discharged the battert's are ?
Last week mine was kicking out over 20 volts at idle so I replaced the regulator/rectifier, I'm now hoping that I did the right thing.
Happy Easter to all.
Big Dave.

My experience is that most outboards put out in the 14.0 to 14.6 volt range. They do not seem to have the sophisticated 3 stage regulators which the alternators on inboards have. I suspect that one could be fitted. An ACR can be set to a high end voltage and a low end voltage for the house bank. The 20 volts is too high and will damage the battery by over charging and gassing.

Hey Bob I talked to a Yamaha mechanic and he says it is doing just what it should be doing now, so I guess I did good by replacing the regulator/rectifier when it was cranking out 20+ volts. I knew that wasn't right and I knew what would happen if I didn't do something. Once again Sportcraft Marina saves the day !
I look forward to meeting you sometime next month.
Big Dave.
