We're swinging on a hook in the San Juans and it is marvelous -- beautiful sunrise, flat calm, predictions for the next few days great, cool at night, sunny and warm in the day -- those of you in this neck of the woods, if you have the chance, come on out. Our li'l C-Dory is doing just what it should be doing -- giving us a memorable experience on the water, warm and comfy at night and exhilarating in the day -- and there isn't a boat anywhere, in our opinion, that could be doing it better, for us.

Bill and El,

Sure good to see a post from you. That means the computer is now alive and well. Steam from the G-P mill is straight up at the moment, so no wind. Sure does look like a beautiful day out there. Wish we could join you but Joe has to be here for jury duty till at least the 21st.Take care.

El and Bill,

Where are you ???? we are thinking of spending a night just like that either tonight or maybe Monday.

I will PM you our numbers

Merv & Kathy

Happy you are in our area El & Bill -

If this crappy weather keeps up I'll have to buy sunglasses.

:love

Dusty

Bill and El,

Thanks for talking about using our boats and not complaining about them.

You brought sunshine to my day....sorry Sawdust

Dusty, I was going to say that you should shield your eyes from the reflections off our very clean boat as we drive through later today but then I remembered that we spent yesterday afternoon taking a prospective C-Brat for a ride so it is "contaminated" with salt spray !!!

Do you think I should wash it before we launch ?

Merv

Merv,

Wash it fer sure! This sunshine is really the pits. No excuse to get outa painting the house, fish are biting and the boat's full of gas. :cry -- someone jerks my chain if I even play with the Shimano and get "that look" in my eye.

Have fun, friend,

Duster

Well phooey! Company this weekend, Patty has a thingee to go to next Saturday a.m. - if we get out at all next weekend it will be just Saturday night and a bit south of the San Juans... :cry

Dusty,

We'll "Leave" some for you !!

Bill and El,
Thank you for the invite. Would love to join. You are in my favorite place in the PNW and it's my favorite time of year. (Sure hate to waste this beautiful boating weather at work. :cry) However, my favorite person is still on the mend from getting a brand new knee joint, and until she gets the clearance from the surgeon, we are "On the Hard". Hoping to be able to be on the boat  by Sept 28, for the Sequim Bay CBGT. Hope to see you all here then.

Nice chatting on the phone. Merv and Kathy -- sorry to have missed you folks yesterday. We were in Anacortes, visiting with Barry (C-Cakes). Day before, on Guemes, visiting with David and Kate (Anna Leigh).

We headed over to Lopez Sound last evening, before the wind picked up, and after the lumpiness you folks had, came through Lopez Pass and dropped the hook in the anchorage we call Lopez Tombolo (just north of the pass). Wind calmed for a nice quiet night, and now up and fixing the coffee.

Hey -- we peeked into a great little cove, just south of Lopez Pass on the east side of the sound -- looked perfect for the night, but there are floats saying NO BOATS -- there's a totem on a rock and looked like a long house ashore -- anybody know the place? We didn't anchor, since we wanted to respect what looked like a Native special place.

If the weather is still good on Monday, would you put a little more salt spray on the bow of your shiny boat and come back out? We will probably pull out on Tuesday at Bellingham. Must get back to CO for an overseas trip (so won't be at Sequim).

Harvey - sure hope all's well with "your special person" and that the two of you will soon be back on the water. Sorry to miss you.

El and Bill,
Thanks for the call, it was good to talk even if we didn't meet this time.

We quit Spencer spit because of exposure to the rising NW/NE wind and went back to La Conner and found the place full of our (ex) frineds from Tolley. managed to snag a spot on one of the public floats to get some food.
After dinner we decided that being tied to the public dock with homeless drunks for company was not exactly what we wanted so we made a sunset cruise back to Cornet bay past the 60ft+/- power boat with "n" megabucks of electronics that had decided to go the wrong side of a marker in the Swinomish with inevitable results. Vessel assist was on the scene but the boat was already listing about 15 degrees as the tide went out. Should be a fun sight this morning !!!
Thought about staying in Cornet but the ramp was empty so we just loaded up, went home and made two dogs vey happy.

Sorry but Monday is out, Kathy has to go to America and I have to entertain the TV repairman (and do that "work" thing).

If we don't see you before then I'm sure you will be at THE boat show gathering.

Be safe,

Merv & Kathy

<<there's a totem on a rock and looked like a long house ashore -- anybody know the place?>>

If I understand properly your description the location, that's Paul Allen's property. He owns all of Sperry Peninsula. The totem and long house are relics of Camp Nor'wester which existed there until Allen took possession.

El and Bill,
Thanks for the good wishes for Deena, and she is mending, faster than the physical therapist and doctor expected, Due to her hard work, and slower than we would like seeing as the season is at its peak and we are just peaking at the water from the John Wayne Marina occasionally.

Curious about how you are making the link to the internet from your anchorages. Do you use the BroadBand Express ( BBX) system, or are you just using local WiFi where you can find it? Or via a PC Internet card?
I just tried one of them, (ATT) that worked OK for internet access but it didn't work out for our work, (too slow) so we turned it back in. The $$ per month was too much to just have it for fun at a more convienient time.

Sorry we will miss you at Sequim Bay CBGT. Wish you both the best weather, safe travels, and quick return to PNW. Looking forward to more and better all the time.

We had a delightful evening and night anchored on the south side of Spencer Spit, with light northerly wisps. We could anchor just a short way off the beach (aren't these li'l boats great? - the big guys were well off shore) and listen to the gulls and herons as they settled down for the evening.
This morning, after our cuppa, we drifted easterly at a full 5 k through Obstruction Pass and rode the tide up into Eagle Harbor on Cypress Island. Delightful drifting lightly on anchor, with a glorious full sunshine view of Mt. Baker. Sorry others haven't been over this way to share a glass of vino or some such.
Thanks for the info about that NO BOATS cove, Socrateur. Guess those floats restricting the area are from the camp days and not valid any more.
Glad the knee is doing so well, Deena. Don't rush it -- you want it to be in perfect shape and the weather is still great out here. Harvey, we have a Dell Aircard for our Dell laptop -- works great, most places, and has broadband speed. Not cheap, but we pay no other ISP charges elsewhere, so good for us on the boat and traveling.

Ah, yes...and here I am sitting in my office waiting for the 6:00 p.m. City Council budget meeting and the 7:00 p.m. regular Council meeting to start. I will get home in time to pat Daydream on the transom in the driveway, and if I am really lucky, it may not be pitch dark...phooey!

I'm really fond of that little spot. It's never crowded, and often enough you'll have it all to yourself.

I would guess that P. Allen put those there to keep people away from his property. Perhaps you didn't notice, but there are security cameras mounted on tall poles along the shoreline, and those cameras will pan to follow your progress if you stray too close. I don't know about the legality of cordoning off watered areas like that, but some tidal/aquatic lands are privately owned in the area.

Intertidal lands may be, but not open water. The Bellingham Yacht Club tried to pull the same deal at Inati Cove...I for one am not buying it. You can have $50 billion but you can't keep me out of the navigable waters adjacent to your island...
