will a 2000 watt honda gen start a coleman 9200 btu a/c

i would like to install a coleman mach polar 9200btu roof mounted air conditioner on my boat. i hope my honda 2000 watt gen can run this unit. i have read that when the air conditioner cycles off the 2000 honda cannot restart it. all advice is greatly appreciated.

My Honda 2000 doesn't have a problem running the Coleman Polar 9200 in our Eagle Cap truck camper. The camper was made in 2006. There is some on the Internet under a search on this who say the Honda 2000 won't start the new ones do to a change in refrigerant, but others say it still will. I think with a good Google search you will find the info to make a correct decision.

Hi Pat, If you start your big engine rev. it up to about 1500 RPM then Crank the Gen. (2000) Together it will start the AC. Enjoyed Crusing with you all up in MD. Back to the AC we have the AC you are asking about we use a 2000 Honda Gen. it will Start & run it with out any problems. Check out our Pics. of the AC. Hope we will Cruise with you & Linda again Jim & Sandy Jessup

Thanks Jim, Linda and I loved our cdory but wanted more amenities. We thought the sea ray might do that for us. Sea ray makes a great product but we are trawler type people, so with that in mind we just recently purchased are last boat, a nodic tug 26. Still trailerable, and love the diesel yanmar engine. I will post pictures some. We have it moored on old hickory lake in Hendersonville tn. Drakes creek marina. We enjoyed visiting with you and sandy as well. C-brats are the best and yes Linda and inare still c-brats.

I just purchased a Honda EU200i generator to run a portable LG 7000 btu AC [stand up] that draws 7.6 amps, as a temporary AC on the boat & hurricane backup for house. Well trying it out yesterday it would only start the AC in normal mode NOT in the eco mode. So it looks like I'll have to keep the genny in the not so efficient mode. Anyone else have this experience? Will try running the home side by side this weekend. Roy

Ray, is correct that the EU 2000 will only run the Coleman (and similar AC units) in non Eco mode. It is the high starting load.

There is a way around that: Put in the Dometic "Smart Start". It is far better than a soft start capacitor. But it costs $375. It will allow you to ron a larger AC unit--and start the 9200 on Eco mode.

Bob, have not tried the genset I got from you with THATAWAY, did you put the Dometic thing on that AC? Can't remember.

Charlie

The Smart Start was not available when I set up Thataway, so I ran the Honda EU 2000i on non Eco mode all of the time when running the AC unit. If you know that it will keep running for several hours, you might start it on non eco, and then go to eco. But if the compressor stops, and has to start again, it will stall the generator on startup load when in eco mode.
