Windows Vista. Grrrrrr

Well I "upgraded" to Vista. I like it over all BUT...... My Nobeltech tides and currents won't run on it and neither will Raymarines Raytech planner. Bummer.
 
Good luck - as I write this, I am finishing up a 4 day workout with Vista.
 
Guess I'm the lucky one. My Nobletec tides and currents works great under Vista -and I like Vista very much. I've had absolutely zero problems on the install and no compatability issues. I know, I know, Pat - should have bought a Mac. Started that way when they first built a Mac, and have since graduated :lol: :lol:

You are lucky. I even called Nobeltec and they said even the latest version is not compatible with Vista. They told me they are focusing on their high dollar software first.

Don't get me wrong, I really like vista and like you had no issues or errors upon upgrading. Just a little ticked about those two programs.

Naw, Pat. But I knew what you were thinking :roll: :roll:

They are both great systems IMO. My computer system design MS is so old it was all vacuum tubes! Transistors were not even a dream, but all three kids are computer geeks and I must stay somewhat current just to communicate. Even Les was a trainer, installer, trouble-shooter for a computer company -- mostly mainframe.

And Patty should give you a gold star for being nice!!!!

Well, as good as mac's might be they wouldn't run most of my software without installing windows so that argument is pointless.

I think I just figured out why I can't run Tides and currents. I am using the 64bit version of Vista. My guess is your running the 32bit version. I knew I should of bought the 32 bit one. Dang.
 
Absolutely right!

BTDT T&C won't run in 64 bit. I started with 32 bit because most of my programs wouldn't run in 64. Sooner or later gotta go to 64 but not much advantage right now for me. My homebuilt computer is all 64 bit capable with 2 MB DDR2 ram and much ram on the video card - waiting for the starting flag!!

Ya I just wish the computer geek at the store hadn't misled me regarding the 64 bit version. He said my programs might run a little slower. Didn't mention that they may not run at all. Boooo
 
Mmmm...Solaris allows you to run 64 bit or 32 bit programs. So does
Linux. I'll bet all the BSD free OSes do too.

Vista can't manage this?

My vista can - my only problem with 64 bit is that some of my programs won't yet run in 64 -- soon. Not really any advantage for me to use 64 bit... any games that I use run very well at 32, and Photoshop CS3 works great.

The OSes I quoted above will run programs in 32 bit or 64 bit at the same
time - assuming you install the 64 bit version of the OS, that is.

64 bit Vista should, if designed to the same standards as other OSes,
be able to run 64 bit and 32 bit programs at the same time.

Or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

For the time being,
I've jumped ship from Linux to MAC OS/X and have really liked it
so far. Windows XP runs in a little box on my display. Mostly I ignore
except when someone sends me something that has to be processed
in MS Word etc instead of OpenOffice.

You probably misunderstood me. Mainly because I don't have a clue as to what I'm saying. If the head nerd likes it, it's good enough for me. I really like Vista -- if you have it and don't like it, I'm sorry. If you don't have it and don't like it that's okay too.

At 87 I'm just pure happy to be here among friends!! :thup :thup
