keeping a straight tack trolling on a kicker

You have to think of an autopilot in the regards to a safety feature. Being able to set and maintain a course in limited visibility (fog, darkness, etc.) without constantly checking your heading allows you to keep your eyes on your surroundings for possible danger. When making long runs to...

    How did you do shrimping?

June 1st is not the opener, it's the closer. It's the last day of shrimping in Area 12.

    Blue lingcod

I've never really mentioned this here before, but in my off time I work as a lingcod quality control consultant. Because you're a fellow C-Brat, I'll take that blue lingcod, cook it, eat it, and then report back on its quality compared to a regular one, all free of charge. That way you'll know...

    August 21st shrimp.

Pleasant Harbor is a nice marina with a WDFW launch right next to it. If you want a place to sit on the hook overnight, look at Dabob Bay. There's a spit on the west side that has some good anchorage behind it, I think. There is some good shrimping in that area, as well.

    Winter Harbor BC 2018 thread

Thanks for the info. We noticed, too, that the Coho were big this year. Considering the eggs of the hens were pretty undeveloped, they were probably gonna grow another 4 or 5 pounds before maturing, so they're gonna be really big when they get to the terminal fishery. On average, the Springs...

Looks like some good groceries. Are those yelloweye rockfish in that third pic? What was your total take home for the trip? I'm debating visiting Winter Harbor vice Nootka one year.

    Cruising into the open ocean

I have a single 90 with a 9.9 kicker, and I predominantly fish the open ocean for salmon, usually 15-20 miles off Westport. I have a tie bar to steer the kicker from the helm, and use my Garmin autopilot a lot when trolling. The autopilot is handy for maintaining a straight course or a...

    Nootka Sound 2018

We were 3 shy of our Chinook limit, but the Coho limit was an unexpected benefit. A halibut would have been nice... maybe next year. Yeah, I'm looking for a little more boat.

    Winter Harbor BC 2018 thread

Weather looks like it's going to be pretty nice for the trip. Wednesday and Thursday the ocean is going to be really flat outside Quatsino Sound, but it's going to be a little windy. Looking forward to the reports.

    Nootka Sound 2018

Another memorable fishing trip in Nootka Sound is in the books. This trip was challenging and unique, but we took advantage of favorable sea conditions to get outside and fish the ocean, which was actually smoother than inside. Evidently, because of the full moon the fish were gorging themselves...
