    Permatrim---thumbs up or thumbs down?

I installed one last winter, best money I've spent on the boat.

    TomCat Dinghy Question

If all you are going to be using it for is getting back and forth to shore then keep it small, they are very heavy and cumbersome to get up on the boat.

    Boat Appraisals

I haven't checked on a C-Dory but other boats I've checked on could be sold for almost double the NADA estimate.

Condensation of Water in Fuel Tanks - a myth?

I always figured the need to keep tanks full was an overrated myth. As James stated, I think the only time it would make any difference is with huge temp fluctuations over a long period. I run the tanks as low as possible on the last trip, add stabil, and refill in the spring.

    Live Bait

I suspect that whenever a school of herring is around their will be something hanging around waiting to eat them. The problem is that they don't cooperate, sometimes you find them and sometimes you don't.

    Live Bait

It worked. I just got back and had a chance to try the rigs. I only found 1 small school of herring. I dropped the rig through the school and got a herring. I let the heering drop with 2 oz sinker and after about 10 seconds had a 30# halibut. I never could find the school again and never...

    Live Bait

No takers Huh? Last night I got out the fly-tieing stuff and tied 2 small flies onto the bottom of the bend of some circle hooks with 1" leaders. The theory is that when a halibut or king salmon take a herring that is caught on a fly they will also injest the circle hook. I'm going to valdez...

    Live Bait

During my last trip to PWS, twice I had large fish hit herring being caught on a sabiki rig. I have had this happen on numerous other occasions. I believe the cause is that the 10-15 seconds of frantic activity when a baitfish is first hooked is so violent that anything near can't resist...

Fabricating a roof rack and frame for cockpit roof.

Thanks for the pics, I am considering some type of cover over at least part of the cockpit. I always prefer stealing others ideas rather wearing out my brain coming up with my own.

    What would you change...

On my 22 I have so much weight in the stern (the boat, not me) (no comment on the deckhand) that I wouldn't want the engine on a bracket to add to it but it would add some room. If I could change one thing it would be to extend the roof about 2' to the rear past the cabin to give some rain...

July 08 Elfin Cove fishing adventure

B-C, thanks for the offer. There is a good chance that I will be there with my boat. I made a trip from Haines to Hoonah and thereabouts this year, I'd like to get out to Elfin Cove next year. Keep us informed.

    Do you fish alone?

Since we are talking about safety stuff, a friend of mine was on the boat in PWS that sunk after hitting a whale last year. With the boat filling up with water, he reached the decision that a PFD might be a good idea but since it was not his boat he didn't have any idea where he might procure...

    Permanent Defroster

Has anyone installed a permanent defroster system on their boat? I don't really like having a couple of fans up on the dash because they impair vision and my dash always has lots of other crap on it. What I envision is a small squirrel cage above the electronics shelf with directable vents...

Miles per gallon while towing 22' C-Dory

    This has been interesting reading. I tow a 22 with a 2005 GMC 2500 with a 6L gas engine and I average 11.5mpg.

    Pot Pullers

Here's my thoughts for you to chew on. I have a puller made by anchor mate, it looks just like the windlass' they sell. I made a mount with quick release capability for the starboard gunnel. I quickly found out that it needed a fairlead to keep the line coming onto the center of the capstain...

Fuel Capacity and Weight for 22 Foot Cruiser

I put in the 25 gal tanks and carry extra 15 gal drums. The 15 gal drums are as big as I can easily pick up and put on the lazzerette hatch to siphon into the tanks. The nice thing about the drums is as soon as I have room in the tanks I empty them and store them in the dinghy, out of the way.
