    05/13 - 05/15 - Friday Harbor CBGT

I hate to disappoint you all, but I'm "only" a drummer! Here's proof: I'm wearing a red tunic, not a black one. By the way, does anybody know why the drummers wear red, while the pipers wear black? It's a quiz. No Googling! It has to do with the early history of the modern "regimental" pipe...

    05/13 - 05/15 - Friday Harbor CBGT

I suspect we're marching in the parade. But in July, we'll have our competition sets honed to near-perfections, so I think we should put on a little show to showcase the tunes we play that are NOT marches. We've got jigs, hornpipes, reels, and strathspeys. And Amazing Grace, of course. :-)...

You got an AIS receiver yet? That's usually the easiest way to find Two Lucky Fish! Also DCS call for position request; my MMSI: 338031218.

Thanks for all the support regarding Arwen's First Communion. The C-Brats are both wise and fair. Apparently there's something important about experiencing it with all her little school chums and the priest who baptized her, though. :-) After reading all the cool events scheduled (I love the...

Two Lucky Fish and crew will not be attending this year. First time we'll miss it since purchasing the boat. We're very disappointed, but apparently Arwen's First Communion, with all her little classmates, is an event we Must Not Miss.

    01/21 - 01/23 Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Gathering

Boat marketing is a strange thing, ain't it? I don't claim to be any sort of expert here, but Jim's comments strike me as largely valid. It's interesting to see which boat displays consistently have visitors.

Well as long as we're just dreaming here, I was impressed with the Coastal Craft on display alongside the Fathom 40 at Qwest Field. Really nice 40' aluminum-hulled cruiser, made up the road in Vancouver BC. Still, for $1.1 million, I think I can get a lot more boat on the used market, no?

It's hard to go wrong with those classic Grand Banks boats. I like the trawler cabin forward/cabin aft layout, with a common area in the center.

    New from Ranger Tug

This is just my opinion, so please feel entirely free to reject it! I looked these boats over yesterday in more detail, and they seem just a little bit "complicated" to me. Too many parts. Too many mechanical fasteners holding them together. Too many places requiring sealing/bedding/caulking...

    New from Ranger Tug

There was room for another boat, but it hadn't arrived by the time I left yesterday.

Looking for the smallest Dingy possible...

Yeah, but can you photoshop in an image of me trying to get my legs untangled from the oarlock contraption?! Seriously, I love this little dinghy, but it is optimized for one thing: It's extremely small and light. I store mine beneath the aft dinette cushion, along with my Magma grill, on top...

Looking for the smallest Dingy possible...

I'm happy with my Feathercraft BayLee. I've written about it at Navagear. Sorry some of the images are missing. Not sure what's up with that. http://www.navagear.com/2009/02/02/feathercraft-baylee-on-the-water-test-report/ http://www.navagear.com/2010/06/12/feathercraft-baylee-still-a-winner/

    Is AIS in the house?

I like to think I had a little to do with Standard Horizon's new GX2150 product. Suffice to say Standard Horizon has fixed the NMEA data routing issue I found so troubling. See my write-up at Navagear: New Standard Horizon GX2150 VHF/AIS/loudhailer: A winner, for sure

    Is AIS in the house?

My Shine unit is running strong, but Shine seems to be focusing its efforts on the commercial/government market primarily. They've sort of disappeared from the recreational scene. They still offer the products, but it's not their top priority. However, recreational boaters ARE Vesper Marine's...

    Nordic Tug furloughs workforce

Speaking of the business...There's an article about the Lindhout brothers and Triton Marine in today's Bellingham Herald. [KATIE GREENE | THE BELLINGHAM HERALD: Shane Potter masks off sections of the interior of a C-Dory 25-foot Cruiser so he can paint it Thursday, Aug. 26, at Triton Marine.]

New combination VHF radio, AIS reciever/Hailer

Me too. I've finally "bitten the bullet" and acquired an NMEA multiplexer, but I have yet to install it. That should solve all my C-Series networking problems. I think. :-)

I'm so mixed up right now, I just can't remember who was showing off the iPad and nav software. Whoever it was, THANKS for the cool demo.

Nice to see you as well, Neil. I spent the night in La Conner too. Yeah, I'm getting better at the locks. No trouble. Although I hate waiting for the large lock, the nice thing is that they always put small boats alongside larger ones in the large lock, so you've always got help from your...
