Effectiveness of handheld VHF when in dinghy or kayak

BRINGING THIS BACK --> New interesting info. About a month ago, I had a USCG Safety Training instructor on my boat and we were doing "person in the water recovery drills." (PIWRs). He showed up in full uniform (and his wife did too -- she was the PIW for the watch me do this part...

PNW 2022, Columbia River and San Juan Islands

Yes, VTS can see your AIS, but I always like to confirm that, so I know it is working too. Sometimes it takes them an extra few second in their response. Yes those big cats are nice, but first I need to hit on that 100M lottery. Then I could afford the right trailering rig too. :wink...

Air bags or other such systems

For my 07 Tundra, the Timbrens have been pretty nice with my 22 Cruiser at 5K#. They have spacers for height adjustment, and when not towing I'm about a half inch clearance. With my cargo trailer empty, the truck just comes down to the top of the Timbren. NO noticeable affect on the ride...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Well not just today, But . . . . I just got back from a few days down on the Columbia River, launching at Port of Kalama. YES, it is a steep ramp, but it is a nice facility. The Columbia was running like crazy --- mid channel flow was 3+ knots for the entire time. Docking gets interesting...

    1. The Water Speed through the tunnel on the 32 Cat. The hulls on that cat are asymmetrical, not hull to hull but half to half on each hull, with both inside halves shaped differently than the outside halves It is really hard to see on the photos but looking at them in the factory it is...

    Radar through-cabin wiring question

cbbernard you are going to be glad you have that radar next time you get into the fog. I have been dealing with a "Weird sound" -- (moaning groan) coming from my new Raymarine Doppler2 radar installed in Feb this year. After talking to Rodger's Marine Electronics, the original installer and...

Air bags or other such systems

Hi Colby. Two questions: 1. Did you remove the Timbren cylinders? 2. With the 2.5 inch lift, are you noticing any need to readjust your headlights for distance? With that lift, and not towing, you would have a forward downward tilt but it is cool that it comes down to normal flat when towing...

    How much rode wil fit

You didn't mention if or how much chain you have, and for anchoring, that is important. For a 25 C-Dory, I would consider having at least 50 feet of chain as a minimum. I'm sure some will think that is over kill, but I thin you will find that with that much chain, you might get by well without...

PNW 2022, Columbia River and San Juan Islands

Hey Colby, Welcome to salt chuck boating. Yes, It is a pain to keep the windows clean, and the rest of the boat. I carry a spray bottle with a mix of water and vinegar and use it liberally. It helps cut the salt smear, but it doesn't last forever. I always try to keep the spray below the...

    Howdy

Hi Ronnie, and Welcome. C-BRATS is a great place and everything you could want to know about C-Dorys is here. Plus, there are great folks who know and understand great boats. I have been looking at doing your route for a couple of years, St Paul, South on the Mississippi, down as far as the...

Found a 2008 22 Center Console for sale

I have seen that boat up in the San Juans. I'm pretty sure it was masquerading as a tender for something tied up there at Roche, that was some bit longer. Harvey SleepyC :moon

    insurance and lithium batteries

Foggy, I couldn't agree with you more, especially after being well fried. And on the burning lithium batteries. They are on of the hardest fires to fight, with considerable safety concerns, and reignition probabilities. And adding water does little to extinguish them. Harvey SleepyC :moon

    16 vs 19 vs 22

Howdy Nigel, Good to see you here. Yes the 19 (only one model so no Angler or Cruiser version in that length), have the same companionway, (passage between the V-Birth and the cabin), as a 22 Cruiser or 22 Angler. I don't believe it is a hatch, but I do recall seeing on some 16's a bulkhead...

PNW 2022, Columbia River and San Juan Islands

WOW, that sling launch thing scares the willies out of me. I would be freaking out to do that to my boat. Nice pix, though, Colby. And when we were there in May, that fire spot was still full of the burn remains. Could you still smell the "not so good aroma" there? Think it was due for an...

    16 vs 19 vs 22

The V-birth on the Angler is the same as the 22, access via the companionway, unless it has been modified. I don't think it would work like the 16, except there is no sitting with comfortable headheight. Here is a photo of a 22 Cruiser and a 22 Angler side by side. Harvey SleepyC :moon

Colby, nice hookup. I just remembered why I don't like doing mooring balls. I have to get out on the fore deck. Thanks for the update. Harvey SleepyC :moon

    Race to Alaska

Well it is ON for Real, and been going for a while. Crazy, scary, dangerous start. You can check out the daily reports here: https://r2ak.com/2022-daily-updates/ And here is a great R2AK documentary on YouTube, of the team "North to Alaska" in their 2019 trip on a school project boat. It...

    Good place for fire extinguisher?

Mine is, the required one, a BC 3 pound, mounted under the sink, on the forward bulkhead, right inside the door. I have had 15, Vessel Safety Inspections, and only once was it mentioned that it was not in a convenient location. I also carry a 5 pound CO2 extinguisher, just inside the...

    Stuck window

I have used Dry Silicone spray, directed into the tracks with one of the WD-40 spray straws AFTER hosing with copious amounts of fresh water and letting that be dry. I'm pretty sure that the Mary Kate Liquid Rollers is the same thing. The push forward and press on the latch is a good tool too...
