Lady Washington, Tall Ship Aground in Sequim Bay

We saw her sail into Port Orchard later that week, and then leave Sinclair Inlet under power one morning. Utterly no wind!

Port Harvey Marine Industrial Zoning Hearing Report 7/2017

One of the prices we have to pay here in Kitsap County for our naval presence which provides 25,000 plus good paying jobs is, get this, Bangor Submarine base does not want industrial presence, activity, and noise disturbing the quietness of the Hood Canal. Downtown no high buildings looking...

    Why I love the sea/water

After 45 years inland (actually only 30-50 miles from salt water) we have moved back onto the Puget Sound - water, tides, our ferries (and even new versions of the old mosquito fleet are returning) Naval vessels huge and small. All out our windows, and as I slowly learn to deal with the...

    C Dory cancelling dealers

It is legitimate to criticize a companies business plan. Some accuracy and relevance are in order, but the criticisms posted so far largely meet that criteria. There is no reason at all to claim that the manufacturers of C-Dorys are immune. We are interested parties.

    C Dory cancelling dealers

I will post in next day or two. And of course the factory recommending a dealer as offering good service and fair prices for particular repairs would be entirely adequate.

    C Dory cancelling dealers

A little aslant the topic: It would be nice if the manufacturers of the boat established a boat servicing division. It could be run and priced with their desired profit margin. It could help even out workforce stability, perhaps lower prices when business slows, higher when they are busy. Our...

    "New" C-Dory Project

Here in the Puget Sound most day-boaters do not have radar or plot charters. Most boats in marinas do. I would guess that most C-Dories do have this equipment - we tend to be more serious about boating. Charts and a smart phone apps are enough for taking a boat out for tests and trial runs. You...

communication differences between aviation and marine

Actually I always have my radio on, usually channel 16. I do have a hearing disability - usually takes hearing the message the second or third time before I understand it.

communication differences between aviation and marine

If you are sailing inland waters (Puget Sound), there isn't much reason to use the radio. I keep mine on in case someone (usually a board paddler) needs assistance. Marinas, bridges - just easer to use the cell phone. Don't communicate with ferries and large ships - they don't want to be...

Can I see MMSI number on my radio so I know what it is

I have been told that it is not all that difficult to hack a radio, so you can install a new number, and there are some technicians who can even do so legally. On the 1-10 scale of illegal things I suspect this might rate a 0.5

    2019 Inside Passage

This was dramatically seen in my summer on the Yukon. The man with a 5 horse used more gas to go up river than those with 50-100 horse power.

    New versus used?

I had an utterly horrible experience with a surveyor, managed with the assistance of seller and my own experience to recover. Don't hire a surveyor without checking around and getting recommendations. The most serious issues with a c-dory regards water invasion into the balsam core and the...

    USS Fitzgerald

While I was on destroyers there were always three outside watches. Port and Starboard, and one watching aft. These in addition to all the crew in the bridge.

    USS Fitzgerald

There is a possibility that the merchant ship was originally in an overtaking situation, and switched it to a crossing situation mid-maneuver.

    RACE TO ALASKA 2017

The first race or two were really exciting. It has become a sort of 'meh'. The technology and skill going into an advanced sail boat is impressive. The race, if it is to gather a large following, needs to be recast. Those rowing should be arriving in Alaska about the same time as those sailing...

    Boat explodes, Ocean Isle NC

Didn't pump any gas, but once did put the nozzle into a rod holder, immediately caught the error. I put something in those rod holders. They are right next to the gas ports. I would say that 28 gallons of misplaced fuel always merits an emergency response. If they had called the fire...

    Liability query

Sometimes the problem is not that the friend or guest sues, but rather that their medical insurance company sues. A son was at a friends house where that happened.

    Hypothermia versus Cold Water Shock

At the longer USCG classes I took here in Puget Sound country the consensus from instructors is than should someone fall overboard it may be well to declare an emergency and call for help. Simply recovering the overboard person may not solve the emergency. A main lesson which cannot be over...

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Took my longest trip so far, Bremerton to Port Ludlow and back. My phone plotter says about 40 miles each way. This Friday stands out as our first 65 degree day, and we have 8 days of rain ahead. All the mountains were out, not many boats on the water, beautiful day.
