Lady Washington, Tall Ship Aground in Sequim Bay

Lady Washington took some time off and rested on "Middle Ground"'s western slope for a while Monday. Appears they cut the corner too close to the spit, and got caught in the relatively soft bottom of sand, gravel and mud there. the tides were running into the minus side, so, given the occurrence time, they will get plenty of lift come the tide rise. The Peninsula Daily News article is here.

Sure could be worse places, worse situations and worse outcomes.

We were on our way out of Sequim Bay on Monday morning about 8:30 AM for a week in the San Juans and the lady Washington went aground right in front of us. They were actually in the marked channel but on the wrong side of it for a ship that size. At 11:30 AM there was a predicted low tide of -2.4. Bad day, but it could have been worse.

We saw her sail into Port Orchard later that week, and then leave Sinclair Inlet under power one morning. Utterly no wind!
