    One Armed Boating

I'm in the recovery phase of a herniated C/S disc, causing neuropathic pain in L shoulder and L arm/hand numbness. Not the same thing as you but some of the same symptoms and definite activity restrictions. Your idea of enlisting help is a good one. Now would be a great time to teach others...

    Found my dory!

Congratulations Jackie! I'd suggest if you haven't already that you check out the thread currently on this site titled: "Suzuki owners-question". You might find it helpful, particularly if you're not personally handy with outboard maintenance. It could help inform your choice of kickers as...

    Suzuki owners - question

It does seem very frustrating, and I don't think any responsible person would chuckle about it. You keep up on your engine maintenance, often involving the transfer of wealth from yourself to the servicing dealer, with the reasonable expectation of longevity and reliability. You expect a...

The Year To Get Her In The Water

I should probably caveat the above by suggesting you confirm the hull to be sound before doing anything. My little wish list will cost you at least $15K, which you definitely don't want to sink into a suspect boat. Cheers!

The Year To Get Her In The Water

Wow, sounds like a fun time of life. We've had a similar situation here in WA on Decatur Island, and rest assured there is an end in sight, with more time available for leisure. I would do all of the following I could afford, roughly in the order listed: new main motor/controls/hydraulic...

    honda 135 on 22 cruiser?

Twin 300's are what I had in mind. Should compensate nicely for my extra 2 coolers of beer.

EQ Marine ???? Update from Pacific North West Area Please

Jason: As others have mentioned Les was a great guy. He had already moved on from C-Dory, but his apparent moving on from EQ Marine will be a psychological blow to the Western Washington small boat community. Imagine making a boat purchase or going in for maintenance/repairs and having your...

    honda 135 on 22 cruiser?

Besides being 20 HP over the MFG. maximum, and being exceedingly heavy relative to the CD 22's design parameters, the Honda BF 135 (and 115/150) are SIGNIFICANTLY larger than the typical 90/115 metric. I bet the motor cowling would hit the forward bulkhead of the splashwell long before the...

    honda 135 on 22 cruiser?

A great engine, but absolutely not appropriate for that boat. It's in a fully different size/weight category than what you need (as are the Honda 115 and 150). 115HP via Yamaha or Suzuki might work. Best in your search.

Single axle trailer OK for a 22' Cruiser? More questions

If you can get it running that Suzuki 60 will plane the boat. Just put on a Permatrim and a low-pitch prop. You won't go fast and you'll be running it hard, but you do have a get-home motor. It could get you through several years unless you have a burning desire to re-power right away...

Tool kit for long road-trip? WHat am I forgetting?

Hi Joel. I looked at your picture: the boat and trailer appear to be in good shape. In addition to new tires (incl. spare), tire iron, correct size ball on your receiver, correct trailer plug, grease gun, jack, tie-downs, (temporary) trailer license, flares, cell charger plug adapter, etc...

Single axle trailer OK for a 22' Cruiser? More questions

Sunbeam is correct, the cheapest boat will normally end up being the most expensive eventually. Especially if it needs a new engine. Look at the 16 in my photo album to see the boat I should've named "short sighted". At least the next owner made out. I heard rumors that he named it " patience...

Single axle trailer OK for a 22' Cruiser? More questions

It sounds like you have significant possible downside: questionable motor, which is not adequate for most users even if it runs well, and which will require mechanical work just to get running. Older boat (albeit in great shape). Single trailer (OK but tandem preferable). Electronics updates...

    Lines and fenders advice

I also like braided, something like New England Ropes double braided. I would suggest a pair of 25' lines for port/starboard bow lines, and a pair of 15' lines for stern, with an additional 25' backup line for towing/rescue/emergency situations, which could be something less expensive. I use...

    Mr. Buddy Heater

I purchased one last year for the boat. It throws out a lot of heat with an adjustable flame and catalytic burn element. Pretty good build quality. Probably best for day use, in a situation of plentiful ventilation. I would probably install a Webasto unit if my heat needs were more frequent...

    Jeeps and C-Dory's, a connection?

I don't personally think much of Jeep products (nightmare history of reliability and safety issues), but I love how they look. I saw recently that Jeep will introduce a Wrangler pickup truck by 2017. Go online and take a look; I think it looks ruggedly awesome in a simple/utilitarian way.

    Ranger Tug 23

Hi Sam. One advantage of this post on this site is my ability to be candid. I think the boat is plain ugly. It looks to me like an 80's GM automobile: a collection of added-on parts rather than a flowing, cohesive unit. Others will have their own opinions of course. Best, Mike.

Should I Buy a Trailer to Help Sell

I think having a trailer will be important to facilitate your sale. 90% of potential buyers of that type of boat will need one immediately, just to bring the boat home. You might not recover the entire cost, but not having one really limits your market with a "trailerable trawler". Because...

    Volvo Penta Inboard/Outboard

I agree with the downeast aesthetics, but also agree with the aversion to I/O's. I lost my ass financially on the I/O I had, for the exact reasons Les mentioned in the first response above. An interesting compromise I saw recently is the Atlas Pompano 23. If inboard was the only real choice...

    Hypothetical C Dory question!

I remember my 16 Angler being a bit tippy from side to side. For example I didn't like all occupants to rush to the same side to land a fish. I wouldn't have wanted the center of mass to be any higher than it was. I'm 6'-2" and don't remember having height challenges underway when I was...
