    Hub spinning on Solas prop

I have spun a few props in Puget Sound. It does not take a very big chunk of wood. In each case I used the kicker to get to calmer water to change the prop. It is good to practice changing on the water. It is doable from the swim step but no room for error dropping anything and also good to...

Double-checking My Planned but Minimal Battery Upgrade

Not to hijack the thread… Bob could you give a little more insight on your preference to wire the windless to the start battery. I have 2-100 amp lithium house batteries and 1-85 amp start battery. Presently the windless is wired to the house bank. Thanks, Ken

    Starlink mini mount issues

Yep we tried some options last spring with it. We ran out of real estate with 200 watts of solar plus the dingy on the roof. This mount does not take up any more thickness than the mini itself. No one can see it so potential theft is not a concern. The bug screen for the hatch still works as well.

    Starlink mini mount issues

We are really happy with this mount. The mini fits nicely on the underside of the bowmar hatch. It is very secure and does not interfere with the hatch function. I have it wired to a dedicated, fused switch on the panel with quick disconnects so it can be moved to our pickup camper.

C Dory 16 Cruiser Wallas 1300 install location?

Even though this install does not have the 12”gooseneck, I have not experienced any water intrusion, even in rough conditions. The exhaust is mounted 13” above waterline and above the strake. The through hull fittings on the sink drain and bilges are lower and below the strake, about 11” above...

C Dory 16 Cruiser Wallas 1300 install location?

You can see the fuel tank cap and fuel lines in the center photo. The tank is less than 12” below the bottom of the heater. I don’t think that’s too critical as the heater will pump/pick up fuel at least as high as the length of the fuel line. I made a tight fitting 3” high plywood box for the...

    Windlass Installation advice

Here are some previous comments from Thataway Bob that I followed: “The windlass should be wired to the engine start battery for several reasons. One is that you should always have the engine running when using the windlass--drive the boat to where the bow is directly over the anchor, and take...

    Fixing small leaks

I noticed a few of the failed rivets were leaking in very wet SE Alaska weather last spring. My intention was just to seal those offending rivets. To make a long story short, I ended up drilling and punching out all of the rivets. They were replaced with stainless 3/16”x1” bolts. That area...

C Dory 16 Cruiser Wallas 1300 install location?

I’m not sure if this or something similar might work on your 16. On our 22 the Wallas 1300 is mounted in the otherwise wasted space on the outboard side of the front port seat cushion. I added a partition in the box under the seat that it is mounted to which is easily removed for service. The...

Installed a Lone Star GX2 anchor winch

We have also been eyeing the GX2. Is there a reason it could not be mounted further forward over the existing Lewmar footprint? In order to load the dingy on the roof, it would be much easier to stand aft of drum winch. Also the power is already there for the Lewmar. Always looking for...

New Member-Looking for Storage Ideas 22’

Here are a few ideas we have come up with over the years. We mined under the Vberth as many others have done which is a significant storage addition. In this area we keep a spare anchor and rode, spare props, tools and some food storage. I built two drawers under the helm seat. The shallow...

    Vberth Insulation

I ordered this Smartsheild product today. It is 10mm (1/2”) with an R20 value. Plans are to use 3M aerosol adhesive to apply it on the hull and ceiling of the Vberth and possibly on the cabin ceiling.
