    New from Ranger Tug

We have 2 Lexuses (Lexi?) - so I'd like to think I have at least some appreciation for the value scale. :) And I see that the Cutwater boats have aspirations in that direction (e.g. the blue glass bowl as a sink in the head). But in the 1/2 hour I was in that booth, the retiree couples were all...

    New from Ranger Tug

While I certainly appreciate something new to look at, I didn't get the sense that this first generation of Cutwaters is hitting the right note. It seems to be a combination of thoughtful features (diesel, stepped hull) that would appeal to an experienced boater, combined with the gold foil...

    Bimini Top

One issue to watch out for is whether any given boat has a cockpit floor. I was standing in the CD22 at the SBS last night (full molded floor) and was surprised how much higher it felt than my 2002 where I'm standing on the hull bottom. Any canvas is going to have to bump up as well to accomodate.

    C-Brats Table at the Boatshow

I just got home from the show and I'm actually rather pissed at that "bored looking Master Marine guy". He was leaning against the engine at the stern of the 22, wouldn't move, so I walked around to find the steps into the boat. He wouldn't even look at me - spent the 10+ minutes I was there...

    01/21 - 01/23 Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Gathering

It's a one-off ferro-cement boat built by the yard manager of the Samson facility that was in Tacoma in the 70s. The design has much in common with commercial fishing boats that were built in that era - large fish-hold (I converted to storage), trolling valve, stern cockpit. It displaces 30 tons...

    01/21 - 01/23 Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Gathering

Ah, I love trawlers! Here's a picture of mine at Van Isle a couple of summers back (for some reason I don't seem to have good pictures of the boat!):

SBS writeup in the Seattle Times: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2014020422_boatshow25m.html It's just amazing to me how much mention I see of Ranger tugs - those guys are clearly doing something right!

    01/21 - 01/23 Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Gathering

As a first time attendee, I was grateful to be welcomed into such a nice group of folks! And I also loved George's presentation - a real treat! FWIW, Roger you might want to check out "Maritime's Marine Centers" booth at the show. They occupy the old Jacobsen's space in Seattle and are the...

    Side Window Replacement

Like Marty said, you might get better results with other techniques. You didn't say if you wanted it cooler under way or moored. Speaking in very general terms you can either reduce the sun load (think awnings and even a Safari roof like on a Land Rover), add direct cooling, or increase...

    New from Ranger Tug

My memory isn't perfect but it's not too far off (so's my spelling): "There are only two colors to paint a boat, black or white, and only a fool would paint a boat black." -Nathanael G. Herreshoff http://www.pbase.com/image/33827233

    New from Ranger Tug

And I just this fall added two hatches to my trawler's pilothouse - it makes a tremendous difference in light and ventilation. Note that the Cutwater appears to have a solid 2 pane windshield - I think the additional ventilation will be quite welcome, particularly in a warm climate. I think it...

    need a new auto pilot

My bad - you're right, the update was down to 2 mph. I poked around a bit and it doesn't look like there has been any further improvement.

    need a new auto pilot

I'm pretty sure there was an update about 2 years ago to get down to under 1kt.

    Armstrong Motor Bracket

One other advantage of a bracket is allowing for a transom door- stepping onto a platform and through a door is WAY more convenient than clambering over the side, particularly if you have limited mobility or - for instance - a large dog. And an effective increase in hull length incurs a variety...

02/05 - Snohomish River Delta Cruise

Chart 18443 has a note in the river saying use chart 18444: http://www.charts.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/18444.shtml After that, it looks like you might be on your own.

Mounting a kicker on our 25 Cruiser

Also, if you tow your boat, you will want to use a ratcheting strap to secure the kicker. If you've ever followed a boat down the road with an unstrapped kicker on a cantilevered bracket, it's an image you won't soon forget!

    Roof rack modification help

Alternatively, you might consider applying some Starboard - or nylon - strips directly to the cabin top. The PO of the Osprey I used to have did just that, and it was great for storing crab traps, lumber for transport, and so on (though I never tried a dinghy there).

Mounting a kicker on our 25 Cruiser

I'm not familiar with the latest offerings, but I suggest that you look for a "high-thrust" model with a larger gear case and gear ratio, not a motor that's just re-propped for your speed range. It used to be that the Yamaha T8 and 9.9s were the only true high-thrust kickers, but perhaps that...

    01/21 - 01/23 Seattle Boat Show/C-Brat Gathering

OK - I just did the event signup, but I'm not clear on the protocol for the potluck. What should we bring? Is there a possibility to plug in an electric chaffing dish or something like that? Also, I'll be brining Jenny (my wife), and I didn't see a way to supply her name for a nametag - did I...
